Simply Put...This Is So Good
The second issue of Captain America: Patriot continues to blow me away, just as the first issue did. This is a series that definitely should not go unread or unnoticed.
The Good
The story and art are phenomenal. I'm a big Captain America fan and I know he "disappeared" after he and Bucky faced Zemo. I know there were other Captain Americas to carry on the tradition as a symbol of hope but I never really thought I'd be interested in reading about their exploits. The story of the Patriot taking over as Captain America has been surprisingly interesting and exciting. We get to see what an established hero has to do to fill the boots of the Sentinel of Liberty. We get to see his teammates reactions to his actions as he gets used to his new role. Even though the events here are "history" in the Marvel Universe, I feel like I'm reading about it for the first time, especially that crazy twist at the end I absolutely did not see coming. The combination of art and colors by Mitch and Bettie Breitweiser are worth the cover price alone. You could simply look at the pictures and ignore the words and be blown away at the scenes and action here. Even though this series is only half way over and I plan on buying the issues, I already know I have to buy the hardcover edition of this to sit next to my hardcover version of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's The Marvels Project.
