Since the start of the series the book has been a hit and miss. There have been some issues that are pretty good and promise you a lot for the future and the next issue disappoints you again.I really wanted to like this series because Remender is a great writer that I personally like but recently he has been just too average. But even though his run has been disappointing so far this issue was maybe one of my favorites.
This issue particulary is good for me because finally we are seeing the end of the Zola story arc which has been just too boring for me and didn't have almost anything interesting.Remender tried to put some touching moments between Steve and Ian but that was just it - they didn't work. But this issue may not have much of Cap's fighting skills but he shows us why he is one of the best superheroes out there and why he will never crumble. But of course there was that cliche as in every major Marvel story these days and also Cap story that in moments like this when our world is at danger even Cap can break but in the end he is always the first one to rise.I get tired of it because it is used in every single book these days.
A good thing was the epilogue in the end which showed us that Ian isn't dead and he has become a ghostly warrior and we may not have seen much from him but the monologue that was there along with that imagery everything was just fantastic.I really loved it and I would like to see more of Ian in the future.
The artwork may be a problem for someone because it's Romita Jr. and people only liked him during Spider-Man run days or when the colorist is good but I always like him because for me he has a unique style and along with Janson he is great.
The worst thing about the issue is that even Remender did the most annoying thing for me - making Sharon Carter the big hero that saves the day. It's just annoying to see a guy like Cap being saved by such an irrelevant character. It's good to see at least once that even Steve needs help but this has been happening too often.Sharon being the hero again and again isn't a good step for writers but I liked that Remender killed her. :D
This book can become better with time if Remender just sticks to normal Cap adventures and doesn't expriment with stuff like that or he can do it again as long as he makes it better.I still think that Remender can do good things with the book but needs some time.
