History

Candra is immortal. She is first addressed as having a deal with the Thieves' and Assassins' Guild of New Orleans. She provided them with power in exchange for money. This deal was broken by Gambit. Candra was also behind an attempt to torture Gambit by trapping Rogue and killing her. Rogue survived the attempt.

Candra is the legendary Benefactress to the New Orleans Thieves' and Assassins Guilds. She created both and kept them under her thumb for some centuries, promising the gift of the Elixir of Life- a liquid which could drastically prolong a mortal's life, or deform them- to the Thieves, and the Power- each mortal gained some type of 'mutant' power- to the Assassins, in exchange for tithing or their services. She was a lover of Gambit's in the past, but their relationship went sour after he left her... and even more so when he stole the Elixir of Life from her to save the life of his wife, Bella Donna. Candra's rule over the Guilds was broken, but restored temporarily by Belladonna when she became the head of the Assassins. Bella, driven by a need for revenge after Rogue absorbed her memories, turned to the Benefactress for help. Candra, always looking for a way to turn things to her favor, managed to betray Bella again.

Candra was an accomplices to Apocalypse. She became his "Herald of Apocalypse" after Sabretooth refused to use nuclear weapons to attack North America.

Candra is currently deceased. Candra tried to reacquire her Heart (the power gem) from Storm who had stolen it. In the process she was killed when her heart gem was destroyed by Cyclops.
