Caliban is a mutant that can sense other mutants within a 25 mile radius of himself. Caliban has had his powers altered by Apocalypse more than once. Edit

Origin

caption
Caliban was recruited by Callisto to use his tracking abilities to help assemble the underground community known as the Morlocks. Caliban was saved from the Mutant Massacre by fellow Morlock Leech, and then again by the original X-Factor.

After a short stay with X-Factor, Caliban stuck a deal with Apocalypse (who was actually Mr. Sinister in disguise) to increase his power. His size and strength were genetically enhanced, along with his speed, stamina, durability, and reflexes. Caliban became the horseman of Death, but quickly separated himself from Apocalypse's influence.

He was also a member of X-Force.

Directly after M-Day, Caliban was staying at the Xavier Institute as one of the 198. During the Civil War he helped the 198 escape to a secret military base in Nevada. He found a large stockpile of explosives inside that had been set to detonate. The 198 were trapped inside the base but the X-Men and Bishop's pro-registration team were able to work together and free them in time.

When the 198 were released from the grounds of the Xavier Institute, Caliban returns to the sewers with Leech, whom he looked after. They were attacked by Masque and his new team of Morlocks. Masque takes Leech and disfigures Caliban badly. Caliban managed to crawl his way back to the Institute, where he was taken into the care of the X-Men. He then joined the team and helped them take down Masque's new Morlocks, and along the way played on the Human Torch's X-Box, but broke it's controller out of frustration while losing at the game. For more information on this arc, see The Extremists.

Caliban was killed by the Purifiers while on a mission with the new X-Force to track down Cable and the mutant messiah (Baby Mutant).

Powers

Caliban is a mutant with the ability to sense other mutants within a 25 mile radius of himself. His original powers also included the ability to increase his strength to slightly superhuman levels as his adrenaline would rise. Caliban could also absorb fear-generated psionic energy from others and redirect that energy back at them.

After his transformation by Apocalypse his strength, speed, endurance, reflexes, durability and overall size was greatly enhanced.
