ok, firstly this isn't a rant lol, so actually think about this...

I was just watching season 5 of Buffy (Glory, Dawn and whatever), and something that Quentin Travers said puzzled me...

in the episode where Quentin comes to Sunnydale to inform Buffy about Glory's God status he tells his Giles that a vampire nest in Africa was taken care of by the 'usual methods'...

Now unless this was a continuity error, what does the 'usual methods' mean?

Buffy was in Sunnydale dealing with Glory and Faith was in prison during this time, so that's the two Slayers taken care of, so what are the 'usual methods' that the Watchers Council used to take care of this threat?

Could it be that The Slayers aren't the usual methods for the Watchers Council to deal with threats like this?

we know they have their own 'strike teams', so is it possible that The Slayer is only used by the Watchers Council as a diversion so that the major bad guys (The Master, Angelus, Glory... and so on..) always go for The Slayer, leaving the Council's strike teams to deal with the usual vampire threats in the world on their own terms?

in that case it brings a whole new meaning to The Chosen One and probably explains the limited life span of The Slayer and why The Council refuses to let The Slayer have a normal life with family, friends, or to back up The Slayer with weapons or a trained Strike Team to back her up during her battles.

Also worrying is that Giles seemed to know about this...

Maybe the Slayer is thier usual method to deal with Hell Mouth locations, while they normally use thier guys to take out lesserk known areas.

Could it be they might have ties with the military and had a team of them take care of it too. Like Riley and his Wife team that does the'special missions'.

hmm...

i didn't think about their ties with the military...

i know Giles really hated dealing with the military when they had to deal with The Initiative, but the Council team that were sent to deal with Faith when she went rogue during season 4 were noted as being Ex-SAS by Giles, so i guess military connections aren't that far fetched...

Well if there's (usually) only one Slayer at a time, it would make sense that there would be other ways of dealing with vampires. She can't be everywhere all the time, so the Watchers have to have some other way of dealing with threats. Makes sense that they'd have a "usual method" to be used everywhere that Buffy is not. I think that's less about Slayer's only being used as a diversion and more about Slayers only popping up one at a time.

You know what they should do, they should kill and resuscitate the Slayer (and subsequent Slayers) a bunch of times so they can make a lot of new ones, then spread them out so there's a few on every continent to deal with bigger threats.

lol, well the Council doesn't exist anymore, so it's kinda a moot point for the future...

not to mention that there are a few thousand Slayers now, with Xander and Buffy dealing with their Scotland Base, and Giles and Faith dealing with Rogue Slayers who go evil...

I'll give you one guess what the got for Christmas. lol Every time we are in the car and on a long trip they have to listen to it. I know most of those songs by heart now.

Its kind of sad, but funny.

Well not now obviously, but before, at the time your question comes from, when they had to settle for strike teams, that's what they should have been doing.

yeah, i suppose it makes sense to have some way of dealing with threats when the Slayer wasn't around...

Tara was brilliant, i really liked her as a character, didn't help that Amber Benson is really sexy though lol. she's also an actual singer with at least 2 albums to her name that i know of,

Somehow I knew you would see that character differant than I did. For me she just never seemed to fit in. Was out of place and I didn't like her interaction with the other Scoobys.

I can agree with most of that. Andrew h311 yeah whished he would of died. Riley I was always on the fence about. As a character he did some things that made me go stupid SOB. Dawn though I liked her as a character more than Tara. Giving Buffy a litte sister helpd keep her grounded some of the times.

I wonder what would of happened if Buffy had an Older sister instead...
