Ok, not that that got everyone's attention you know how i feel when i read the latest issue of Buffy...

ok, so we look at the latest issue of buffy and now she's apparently a lesbian...

allow me to be the first to say WTF!?!?!?

Since when?

lets check past histories...

Angel - Male

Riley - Male

Spike - Male

Parker - Male

Buffy has never shown any lesbian tenancies before not has she ever shown any thoughts harboring bisexuality...

seriously, what happened, did she just wake up one morning as decide to be a rug muncher? Does this mean she'll be hitting on Willow next?

I really hate it when they do something like this just for a publicity stunt, just to get more people reading or watching the show when there is absolutely no reason for this to happen to the character...

i mean, what would happen if they decided Superman was gay, maybe Spiderman or Hulk, how would fans react then?

i'm sorry, i just think this is a stupid marketing plot by Dark Horse and Joss Whedon in a sad attempt to booster sales...

well guess what, it didn't work... maybe instead of trying to get people to read the comic by showing Buffy and other random Slayers half naked in bed they should actually pay out some money to get some good writers and artists to come in and work on the issues!

Rant over!

M

That was a bad stunt Methos. That really caught me offguard. I was expecting something else. Evil human being.

I'm disappointed in that, especially coming from someone like Joss Whedon.

A prime example would be DC. They have had a history of protecting their characters, male ones, really. They threatened to sue an artist for depicting Batman as a paedophile and another artist where Batman was depicted as gay. Mind you, this was all fan art so I think artists should be free to draw what they want. So basically, DC was suing the artist because they didn't like how Batman was being represented and portrayed. However, when someone "dressed up" as Wonder Woman on a Playboy cover, they feel they didn't need to take THE feminist icon in comics, who was being portrayed as a sex object, off the shelves.

Just thank the Lord that Ed Benes or Frank Cho aren't hired as the pencillers...

ugh...

if Ed Benes was working on Buffy i'd definitely drop the issue immidiately, i don't really mind Frank Cho as his work on Liberty Meadows has managed to portray Brandy as a positive female icon without turning her into a sex symbol...

What if it were the reverse? How do you think they'd react if Wonder woman was portrayed as a pedophile and Batman was portrayed as a sex symbol? They're completely different things.

I just read the wikipedia page on Buffy and it said that even though they had a one-night-stand Buffy said she's not gay. What the F##K is the purpose of having her have one-night-stand and she says she not gay. This really wasn't needed, but that was the problem with Buffy. It was getting tooooo much like a soap and they just kept doing things that had nothing to do with fighting demons. I thought the whole Spike tried to rape Buffy thing was just stupid and unnecessary. I didn't see any of season 6 because everything was just to much. I really didn't like it when Willow suddenly became a lesbian and I am to going to like this moment in Buffy's life.

DC wouldn't like Batman being portrayed as a sex object either. If he appeared on Playgirl, what would DC do then?

Why not? They don't do anything about Bat-porn, I know that. And you really should ask them before you make such sexist accusations.

Wonder Woman being portrayed as a sex object is what gets to me. It's a misrepresentation of her character, just like Batman as a paedophile; that's why DC threatened to sue. With DC's history of protecting their staple characters, what makes you think they won't try to get Batman portrayed as sex object off the shelves? While there is a possibility they won't bother with it, there is also a possibility that they will (and I'm leaning towards the "they will" considering their history). I really don't care how or what people draw Wonder Woman as, but Playboy is a mainstream magazine and this is going to reach millions of people. Now some people who see this are going to think of her merely as a sex object and it just annoys me that some people will think of her as merely that.

Hate to tell you sweet-heart, but Wonder Woman is a sex object for millions of men world-wide. And it was just a woman in a costume. If I put on a Superman costume, am I representing Superman?

What gets to me is all of this sensitivity and politically correct hub-bub. I bet it's people with your idealisms that are attacking people for depicting Batman as a pedophile. And thus here's how the wheel turns: if one thing's bad then everything has to be bad. It's a cycle that ends with there being no comic-books at all... but it doesn't really end there. Bum-bum-bum.
