    Series Interrupted

The 'Slayer Interrupted' story arc is another flashback to fill in the gap between the end of the Buffy movie, and the beginning of the Buffy TV series.

I've already raised my objection to the inclusion of Dawn in these stories, so I'm going to let that ride, but I feel I have to reiterate one of the things I don't like about these 'Buffy: Year One' stories. Namely, that while they kind of avoid any later season plot spoilers, they do create a kind of spoiler atmosphere. I'll try to explain as best I can. For example, we see the angry young 'Ripper' Giles in this issue - but the fact that Giles had an angry young phase is something that's supposed to be a bit shocking when we learn it in the show... long after 'Year One' has taken place. Another example is the fact that this story is largely driven by the fact that Dawn reads Buffy's diary and then shows it to their mom... but if Buffy's mother had read what was in her diary, it takes some of the edge off of the episode where Buffy 'comes out' as the Slayer.

On the plus side, the art is slowly improving, mostly thanks to Will Conrad's inks.

I wish I could rate this issue higher, but given the above - and things like Buffy decapitating demons with just a shard of glass - I can't. However it seems like things are on an upward trajectory, so we shall have to wait and see.
