Not long after Bryan Singer announced X-Men: Apocalypse would hit theaters in 2016, a rumor hit the internet about how the movie would possibly be teased in the next X-Men film. Potential spoilers ahead.

Apparently, a new rumor spread about the X-Men: Days of Future Past credits scene and it had people concerned that the cinematic version of Apocalypse is an alien. Well, it looks Bryan Singer heard about it and he took to twitter to respond.

Vulture has confirmed Bryan Singer will direct and yes, it'll be a direct sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past (which opens May 23, 2014). Additionally, the movie is "intended to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast."

X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled to open May 27, 2016.

I think this is a jibe at TMNT film?

I may be jumping the gun here but I am pumped for this. Looking forward to DOFP more than any other comic book movie and Apocalypse on screen is overdue. I hope it is the epic cinematic experience it has the potential to be.

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to seeing what Singer does with Apocalypse. I can only hope he takes his religious overtones to a new apex by casting Apocalypse as pharaoh and a mutant messiah leading the people out from under his enslavement.

Looks like DOFP is going to be an official changing of the guard. I can understand that since the original Magneto and Professor X actors, Pat and Ian, are getting older and may not be able to commit to multiple movie deals anymore, plus the new ones are great regardless. I just hope they don't completely trash the younger actors from the original trilogy such as Iceman, Kitty, Rogue, Colossus, even Storm and (yes, I know) Wolverine, and anyone else I missed (cough cough revive Cyclops and Jean cough cough). They still have a lot of untapped potential so I hope they somehow work them all in there with the new cast, perhaps an X-Factor spin off with the original cast members?

My only concern is that Apocalyspe will be killled in the first film. If they do things the right way, X-Men: AOA should be two movies, not one.

@guardiandevil83: They can have it be one, just don't have him die at the end. Like in X-Men legends 2, you can defeat him, but it's revealed he survives in the end.. Honestly I hope it's like the beyond good and evil story from the animated series.

Bring back Cyclops, please. I don't care how.

Despite the movie featuring the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast, I bet Wolverine still shows up somewhere in the movie.

@mercy_: I'm thinking that they're doing a soft reboot with Future Past by basically passing the torch to the First Class cast and retiring the original cast for the most part.

WELLLLLLLL been waiting on this since say 1995. but lets be real... has any x-men movie been good? i mean good as in giving the fans what they want to see? they are all wolverine centered except first class which was the chance for a reboot that didnt happen. all their movie characters are limited in ability. iceman, mags,pyro etc. bad casting except for saber tooth in xmen 2000, and prof x. the leader of the xmen small roled and dead.. unless this movie brings cyclops back and shows apocalypse as the super power beast he is over the span of 2-3 movies.......it will stink. but hey im a fan so i have to go see it. AND JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE SUPERMAN LOVERS AROUND...APOCALYPSE CAN BEAT SUPER MAN 10 OUT OF 10 TIMES.

If the movie doesn't open with En Sabah Nur killing a Pharoah, and a montage through time, I'm going to be disappointed.

I don't understand why it will focus on the younger cast. Not hating, just wondering how that will work. Is the original cast gonna get killed off? Because if you have Apocalypse it would make more sense to have the original cast in the present or in the future right? Nonetheless I'm very excited for DOFP so we'll have to see how that leads into Apocalypse

You know, if we stop talking about this stuff and seeing the movies we may actually get X-Men back at Marvel someday haha

Yes, i can't wait to see Fassbender ripped Apocalypse in half.

Why would you make him an alien? My knowledge of Apocalypse isn't that great, he was always treated as the Big Ish when he showed up in cartoons but they never really explains what his deal was (beyond being the avatar of social darwinisim).

Mind you, I am stoked for Apocalypse, but where is Mr. Sinister? They should have used him as a lead in to Apocalypse.

Maybe all of the non-First Class movies are part of the bad timeline that leads to the mutant holocaust future shown in DOFP, and that with Wolverine going back in time, it changes the timeline and retcons parts, if not, all of the non-First Class movies.

well in the comics didnt apocalypse increase his power with alien tech? so thats a somewhat reasonable conclusion

Probably will be a time skip between DOFP and AOA to a time when Jean n Cyc still existed and with knowledge of the phoenix saga (lol) they will somehow change the outcome.

ugh. I would MUCH rather they not focus entirely on the First Class cast. I was really hoping the Future Past story would end with them accidentally re-writing history so that ALL the films made sense together, and maybe incidentally adding Iceman and Kitty and some other younger old-casters to the roster.

im sorry. i hate with a passion that comics movies are being made that simply cannot translate into new readers of actual comics. Especially because those would be the EASIEST films to make, as the stories already exist and could be adapted easily. But nooooo. who cares that the comics have survived for decades as great stories. We are Hollywood! We are the kings of unoriginal ideas!

When I first the news box for this, I figured it was going to say it was a movie about Apocalypse origin. I think that would be a very cool idea if they made a whole movie based on just his origin then set it up for an X-Men movie where every knew about the villain fully. Could work. Would be original too. Plus it's Apocalypse. What they could do with him. Show how he starts. Then a coupld flashes into some of the shit he's don't over the years. my brain is working overdrive on this concept. LOVE APOCALYPSE. I just hope they don't screw up how he looks. He must have the face from the comics. It can be a bit more grittier. Like the cover to the X-Men Alliance game cover, and he MUST have the tubes from his arms to his back. That is key. Now who to play him. I wouldn't mind Ron Perlman. He's got the voice and the acting chops. Plus that big ass ugly mouth.

I'm kind of disappointed that this next film will star the younger cast. Not because they're bad exactly, more because I was also hoping that DofP would be used to reboot the whole X-Men movieverse but now we'll probably continue getting alternate history stories with X-Men which I don't really care for. I want to see a real X-Men movie that feels like an X-Men movie and is faithful to original comics at least in most parts, so far only thing these movies and comics have in common are the names of the characters and that's pretty much it. I'm still going to see DofP as I still have hope that Fox may salvage this shipwreck and because I'm a fan of course.

And I think it's weird that so many people wish that rights to X-Men would return to Marvel, as if we could then get great X-Men movies. That's not likely, Marvel is way too busy with their wider universe to focus on X-Men and only thing that we could get out of it would be that Wolverine and other mutants might appear in Avengers films but they wouldn't get their own movies very soon. Of course it might change the way Marvel treats X-Men and mutants in their books to better
