After Blackest Night, comes Brightest Day! Twelve Black Lanterns are returned to life: Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Ronnie Raymond, Deadman, Jade, Hawk, Osiris, Professor Zoom, Captain Boomerang, and Maxwell Lord. The primary Brightest Day series (released bi-weekly) follows Deadman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, while they each deal with new conflicts raised by their return to life and missions given to them by The Entity that they are to complete, for their lives to fully be restored. The other resurrected character are featured in The Flash, Justice League: Generation Lost, Justice League of America, Birds of Prey, and Titans.

    Deadman

Mission: Find the new protector of earth

Deadman was given the task of finding the new protector of earth who is to replace the dying Entity, and the true wielder of the White Power Ring that he wears. Deadman is initially hesitant of his newly restored life and wants to get rid of the ring as fast as he can, even trying to pass it on to Batman, simply because he thought he was best suited to wear it. The Entity encourages Deadman to embrace life, showing how he wasted his prior to his death. After a near death experience in Gotham City, Deadman finally accepts his mission and embraces life, admitting to Dove (who has accompanied him on most of his mission) that he loves her.

    Aquaman

Mission: Find him. Find him first, before they do.

After his resurrection, Aquaman looks to return to a life of heroics with his wife Mera, but is soon attacked by Mera's sister, Siren. The attack causes Mera to reveal to her husband that she was from a colony of exiled Atlantians, and she was originally sent to kill him, but abandoned her mission after falling in love with him. Elsewhere, after hearing of Aquaman's return, Black Manta reemerges from hiding. When the Entity gives Aquaman his mission, he learns that he must find Black Manta's biological son, Jackson Hyde, before Manta and Siren do, as he is the key to keeping Siren's people locked away, preventing a full on war between the sea and land.

    Martian Manhunter

Mission: Burn it. Burt in down. Burn all of it.

With his newly restored life, J'onn J'onzz aka the Martian Manhunter, returns back to Mars with a new goal of restoring life to it. On earth, a Green Martian by the name of D'Kay D'razz who was posing as a human, regains her memory, and returns to martian form, in hopes to become J'onn's new mate. When the Entity gives J'onn his mission, he thinks he is meant to burn down the mysterious forest in Star City that Green Arrow resides in. After Green Arrow manages to stop J'onn and return him to his senses, J'onn realizes the Star City forest wasn't the forest he was meant to burn and returns to Mars to find a new forest created by the murderous D'Kay D'razz.

    Firestorm

Mission: Learn from each other so you can stop him. Don't let him destroy me.

Still haunted by visions of his actions as a Black Lantern, Ronnie Raymond tries to cope with what he had done by ignoring it, and partying, meanwhile his other half in Firestorm, Jason Rusch returns to school in mourning after the death of his girlfriend. Whenever combined as Firestorm, friction between the two causes their powers not to work properly, and there is a mysterious third person within the matrix. When being given their mission by the Entity, the two see what looks to be the Black Lantern Firestorm destroying the White Power Battery. Due to the two constantly arguing, a fissure in the Firestorm Matrix allows the Black Lantern Firestorm aka Deathstorm, to escape, and create his own Black Lantern Corps in search for the White Power Battery. But Firestorm's troubles don't stop there, if they aren't able to work together, the Firestorm matrix could explode, recreating the big bang, and potentially destroying the universe.

    Hawkman & Hawkgirl

Mission: Don't let them leave this world. Stop the Queen. / If your lover dies here, there is no more resurrection. Save him from Hath-Set.

With Hawkman and Hawkgirl's return to life, their arch nemesis Hath-Set aims to use corpses of their lives past to enter a world known as Hawkworld. Hawkman and Hawkgirl follow him into Hawkworld, but are quickly separated as Hawkgirl is abducted. Hawkgirl comes to find that her mother, Queen Shrike is the ruler of Hawkgirl, and plans to use her daughter and Hawkman's bodies to open a portal to Zamaron, the home of the Star Sapphires, and bordering world of Hawkworld, in order to conquer it. With Hawkman leading a war clan of native people, he eventually finds Hawkgirl, but is defeated by Shrike and nailed to the portal. Though Hawkgirl manages to snap Hath-Set's neck, killing him, Shrike opens the portal and invades Zamaron.
