Brightest Day
Once dead, 12 heroes and villains were resurrected by a white light expelled deep from within the center of the Earth. Deemed a miracle by many and a sign of the apocalypse by others, the reasons behind their rebirths remain a mystery. But it will not be a mystery for long.
Review: Brightest Day #8
I literally just bought issue two last week... So I am thinking that I will spend this week's comic book money on the rest of the issues so I can catch up fully to this series... (Actually two weeks ago I did the same with Joe the Barbarian and last week I bought all of the Birds of Prey books so I could catch up)
Will probably end up doing the same with this title!
I'm not really that familiar with the Hawks, except for the whole endless ressurection stuff, but I really enjoyed that part of the story. Not knowing Hawkgirl's complete history, I'm not sure if the Queen Shrike reveal is right or if it's like a recton, but the Queen seems like a really cool character.
@Babs: I believe you meant proportion, not perspective. The size of her hand in relation to the sword she's holding is proportion. Proportion relates to size relations.
Perspective pertains to things like angles, heights, widths, backgrounds, and linear items. Not being an ass just trying to help with the correct terminology.
I could pedantically pick at every little flaw I see in Brightest Day, but, honestly, I'm not going to complain about a series that features some of the best unsung characters of DC's Silver Age. I feel like the series has picked up some much needed momentum in the last couple of issues. I'm happy to enjoy the ride, & I'm hoping maybe a few more dearly departed characters rejoin us before we reach our destination.
Hopefully I'll have it tomorrow in my hands. And yeah, its a good cover for sure, but didn't do much to me, comparing it with previous ones which were killer. Maybe when I read the issue, I'll like it more.

im interested to see where the hawkman/hawkgirl thing goes.
also im really waiting to see what happens with the martian manhunter, his story looks real interesting.
i dont know why but i cant stand the firestorm stuff. whenever i turn a page and i see its firestorm time i get that feeling like when you were a kid and it was time to do chores 'ugghh'
I'm not even a fan of Hawkman or Hawkgirl but I loved this issue. The Hawkworld and Firestorm stuff have been my least favorite. However with #8 I feel like I'm turning over a new leaf. The revealations in this issues have me very curious . Great issue!!
Well, with that wingspan, scientifically, she also couldn't fly, but I see where you are coming from. It's a lovely cover, but she just looks "off". Looks as if her legs are a bit long and her pose is kind of awkward.
Huh. Good review, but questionable timing. Then again, I just reviewed it when it came out, so no biggie.
I thought it was gonna suck but it's pretty much sucked me in, especially after the answers we got in #7.
Also, I don't think HawkGirl wears heels in real life! (check that cover again)
Loving it, even if this issue was a bit of a snoozer for me personally.
Brightest Day is a well executed, tightly written, beautifully and consistently rendered, coherent story about 5 prominent DCU characters and what happens when they return from the dead. Nods to older stories are evident, as well as new information about old characters and events. Brightest Day picks up right where it should following the events of Blackest Night and is taking well deserved time telling these characters stories and at its conclusion will set the stage for the next chapter of the DCU.
I think that the art is just simply gorgeous. I love the story and I love all the characters in this story. There are some I never would have given the time of day to if it weren't for this series and I think that it is being written beautifully.
I dug the focus of the issue, oddly enough. I've complained about previous issues not really doing enough with all the characters, but this time around, it felt like they actually REVEALED stuff for each of the characters that are in the issue.
My biggest problem is that a lot of the "Hawkworld lore" stuff felt SUPER contrived. At least they are making good use of it?
I'm still not feeling it with this series so far. However, it looks as though Firestorm and Aquaman will be focused on in the next issue, and that has me super excited!
Good review. I don't think the pacing has been slow in BD but I do think that their are too many story threads. This issue is great for Hawk fans not so good for Aquaman or Firestorm fans. I'm sure it's all going to come together in the end but it really does feel like too much story for one book.
I think her holding the hammer looks weird because it's lateral and needs to be more vertical but it looks ridiculous being that the handle is so thin which makes the top part look even more heavy and just messes everything up but it does not bother me lol
Sometimes the pacing bothers me but I have gotten used to it and when something is finally revealed it's totally worth it because of the pacing you really feel rewarded.
One of the best issues thus far. Can't wait to see what happens with the Black Manta! As for the cover, I really liked it, tho, I picked the variant of Firestorm instead.
Babs, excellent review by the way.
" Well, with that wingspan, scientifically, she also couldn't fly, but I see where you are coming from."
Her wings are made of Nth metal, which negates gravity. There's no need for them to be a certain size to generate enough lift. The feathers are just a decoration.
