Check out the drool-worthy David Finch cover!

And out of the darkness there will be light, right? We all know by now that Brightest Day will be the event that follows Blackest Night. The story arc will be taking off in April and will be penned by Blackest Night writer Geoff Johns. Are you guys as excited as I am? When we shared the announcement with you guys back in January, we also told you that artist David Finch had signed an exclusive contract with DC and that he will be doing all of the covers for Brightest Day. Well, feast your eyes on this gorgeous piece of art! The lovely people at The Source gave us our first look at Finch's cover to Brightest Day #2. All I can say is, wow! I absolutely love the symbolism in this image. Seeing Arthur ( Aquaman) rising from the depths of the water out of the darkness and into the light just takes my breath away. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in the case of Finch's cover, I'd say I have to agree.

As if that wasn't enough, Brightest Day writer Geoff Johns also gave a quote revealing what we can expect in the upcoming Brightest Day story-arc!

“Brightest Day’ is about second chances. I think it’s been obvious from day one that there are major plans for the heroes and villains from Aquaman to take center stage in the DC Universe, among many others, post-Blackest Night. ‘Brightest Day’ is not a banner or a vague catch-all direction for the DC Universe, it is a story. Nor is ‘Brightest Day’ a sign that the DC Universe is going to be all about ‘light and brighty’ superheroes. Some second chances work out…some don’t.”

Are you guys as excited about the launch of the new series as much as I am? I cannot wait to see the rest of the covers from David Finch!

UPDATE
We tried to get some more info for you guys from Editor-in-Chief of DC, Dan Didio. While it isn't much, he does indicate that we should keep our eyes peeled for more news in the coming weeks!

"Brightest Day is all about second chances, some work out, and some don't". Now who this is referring too, well that's something we will be revealing over the next few weeks.
best,

DD

There you have it, from the mouth of the man himself!

Nice picture but I was glad they killed Aquaman, leave him and everyone else dead who was dead before Blackest Night....Bruce Wayne included don't kill me angry mob

#5 Posted by Bandito (187 posts) - - Show Bio

Seriously, Aquaman is one of my favorite characters and this news is making me crazy-go-nuts!

#6 Posted by johnny_spam (2032 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm a little upset that all these dead heroes are coming back Kara, Hal and Barry didn't bother me but now they are pushing it. I can only hope it's good. That opening line "And out of the darkness there will be light, right?" reminded me of this song.

This reminds me of the dog with the bone. You know, he growled at his reflection and ended up dropping the bone. But I'm pretty sure that won't play into this.

I don't think they'll have all of the dead heroes return...maybe just a select few

Aquaman = Awesome

@danhimself:
Well, it does say that not everyone's second chance goes so well. So even those who are brought back may go right back into the ground.

So glad Finch is at DC. Great looking cover.

major plans for the heroes and villians of Aquaman? Hell yeah.

I'm hesitant in jumping on board Brightest Day. I feel that if I didn't start at Blackest Night or the beginning of Geoffs Green Lantern / Corps run then I missed my chance.

But if this focus on the "Aquaman U" in Brightest Day leads to a new ongoing Aquaman book (Aquaman Rebirth?) down the road, then count me in!!!  ^_^

As long as everyone understands that Aquaman is a solid B-List DCU character - and don't expect him to carry the entire DCU on his shoulders. Yeah, set some adventures under water for variety sake, don't set the bar too high for a guy who can only be out of the water an hour at a time. He doesn't need his own title. That's never worked for long...Give him a storyline in JLA, or Brave and the Bold or someplace...

Is the hand in the water the one he was missing? Or has that come back too?

#24 Posted by crimsonspider89 (817 posts) - - Show Bio

Maybe this will improve his cred and make him stop being the laughingstock of the comic book universe. Also, Martian Manhunter come back as well.

All I can say is.....WOW!!!!!

#26 Posted by Mbecks14 (2068 posts) - - Show Bio

can they not let ANYTHING be a surprise?

they showed us ALL the Bruce Wayne Returns covers. i'm just going to have to avoid all the Brightest Day reveals. i'd like to have at least some sort of anticipation in my life.

The  Blackest Night trades are coming out just in time for Brightest Day if I remember correctly. I know I haven't followed Blackest Night completely but I'll be getting the trades and picking up BD from the start.

Really awesome art! I'm not a big Aquaman fan, but this looks really... AWESOME! lol The Blackest night stories where alright with me, all the dying and coming back and dying and coming back was a bit too much for me X_x but I'm looking forward to what their going to bring on Brightest day.

If they could create good villains for him...I could see his own title doing well (especially if written by J. Michael Stracyznski or Geoff Johns).

Personally, I think Johns has got to be the best writer of this generation.

Why not?  That's most relevant and insidious threat to his realm, and ours.

Awesome cover! I love the dead sharks in the water, now if only he put dolphins doing somersaults in the background XD
