Spoilers!!

Things start out looking good for Peter Parker as he is seen at a club making out with a an attractive woman. Flashback twenty-four hours. There is a mugger going around wearing a Spider-Man mask. The news reports that even though Superhuman crime is down thanks to the Initiative, this "Spider-Mugger" has continued to rob people and escape the police. A new licensed hero called "Jackpot" from the Initiative has gone on record saying it's an isolated event. In the news studio, J. Jonah Jameson is quick to say that the mugger has been inspired by Spider-Man, even though it's been months since he's been seen. When the newscaster asks him to comment on the fact that his paper used to be the top source of Spider-Man coverage and without him, the paper's circulation is the lowest it's ever been. Jameson just says, "No comment."

The next morning, Peter wakes up at Aunt May's in Forest Hills. Later he gets a call from Betty Brant telling him she's found an apartment for him in his price range. Problem is the landlord wants the check by tomorrow morning. Peter can swing the first month's rent but will need a job to pay next month's.

Going on several job interviews, he is turned down by a high school because of his attendance record at his last teaching job, rejected by a magazine as a photographer since most of his pictures look like they were taken on automatic, and denied as a research assistant since he's never been published or done anything since Empire State University. When he is asked what has he been doing since. Thinking back to all his adventures, he doesn't have much he can say.

A few hours later, Peter is invited to go out to a new club by Harry and his girlfriend Lily. Harry and Lily also get her best friend Carlie to go with them.

Interlude: In Chinatown, a new villain by the name of Mister Negative gets his hands on some weird writing that was in the police evidence storage. He quickly shows that he is not a man to cross, as there will be deadly consequences.

At the night club, we return to where we started. Peter was trying to go to the bathroom when a woman came up and started kissing him. He pulls away and heads back to the others. When they ask, he tells them he has no idea who she was. Conversation turns to how Harry and Lily met. Harry tells him that her father is D.A. Bill Hollister and Harry started a one million dollar exploratory committee to see if he should run for mayor. Peter is amazed at how easily he deals with money matters and mentions he can barely even cover his rent. Without asking, Harry pulls out a wad of bills and says that's what best friends are for. Peter is not exactly comfortable with this. He says he's not a college kid anymore and that it is strictly a loan.

The woman that kissed Peter has found him at their table so he makes another escape, this time actually making it to the bathroom. When she follows in, it is empty except for the stalls and an open window. She thinks to herself that he is her way into Harry Osborn's "entourage." She also wants to be there when Harry kicks his "skank" to the curb to take her place.

Escaping outside in a back alley, Peter bumps into Carlie. She's not really into clubs and they begin talking until they get interrupted by the Spider-Mugger. Peter is unable to do anything as the mugger takes his wallet and web-shooter (thinking it's a watch). Peter does manage to hit him with a spider-tracer. He is able to get away from Carlie by saying he's going to try to take pictures for the Bugle.

For some reason, Peter is wearing his costume under his clothes but sees a copy of the Bugle on the ground. He knows that if he goes out as Spider-Man, the Bugle will start selling more papers again. He decides to go after the mugger as himself. He surprises the mugger but he gets by Peter and runs into a homeless shelter. Peter follows only to find Aunt May there. This is the shelter she volunteers at. The man running the shelter, Mr. Li, is surprised to see Peter, disheveled and without shoes. Peter says he was mugged but the mugger exits out the back and hops into a cab. Aunt May says he can stay with her as long as he needs. She wants him to go home immediately to get some rest. He has one stop to make first.

At the Daily Bugle, Jameson is yelling on two different phones. Peter arrives to pick up a check for old pictures of his that the Bugle has been running lately. Betty tells him it's not a good time because Jameson is trying to stop the paper from being bought out. When Peter barges into Jameson's office demanding his money, Jameson calls him an "ungrateful @#*%." Peter isn't going to take it this time. He goes off on Jameson about how he's risked his life over and over for him. He's given him a bunch of pictures that has made millions for him and the Bugle while he only got scraps. He tells Jameson that he made him.

Jameson stands growling. He starts to yell Parker but clutches his chest and collapses.

First back up story: <b"Park Avenue Interlude featuring Jackpot. Continued next month.

Second back up story: The Astonishing Aunt May! Aunt May is at the shelter and sees a young man that goes by the name of Freak snorting sugar packets. A street thug comes in looking for him. He hides as Aunt May comes to his rescue. She turns the table and gets the young man to give a donation to the shelter since he "can afford jewelry" and tells him to come back any time with more bling. As Freak comes out from under his table, he eyes the cash box May is holding. Freak is set to return in two months.

Third back up story: Harry and the Hollisters. Harry meets with D.A. Bill Hollister. He's not too crazy that an Osborn is dating his daughter. He also isn't too sure about Harry's idea of running for mayor. When Lily arrives, Bill finally agrees to allow Harry to start his exploratory committee. But he is firm that his money will not, in any way, buy him any favors. As Bill leaves the two alone, Harry says she doesn't have to worry about him, Osborns don't have to ask for anything.

Overview

Saddle-up Spider–fans as the thrillingly thrice-monthly adventures continue!

In this issue, meet the villain from the fifth Spider-Man movie today! Marc (Wolverine, Blade) Guggenheim and Salvador (newuniversal, Uncanny X-Men) Larroca bring you the next great Spidey Villain... MENACE!

But that's not all! The mysterious JACKPOT makes her "Brand New Day-Debut!” Plus the mystery of the Spider-Tracer Killer deepens. Not nearly 'Nuff said!

On the docks, some thugs are told to leave the warehouse they're at. Not taking the threat seriously, they prepare to fire their guns. The assailant moves so quickly that they are all dead before they know it.

At the Daily Bugle, some men are working on the sign on top of the building. They hear some laughing and a quick flash zooms by. This causes one of the men to fall off the scaffolding. Luckily Spider-Man is nearby and rescues the working. Unfortunately the other worker is in danger also. One of the cables of the scaffolding has snapped and the U from the Daily Bugle is falling. Using his webbing, Spider-Man manages to save everyone.

Inside the new DB, Peter is late for a meeting with the new boss, Dexter Bennet. He runs into a co-worker has been fired for not having a pitch that fit the DB's new look. His idea was about the spider-tracer found on the murder victim last week (the Spider-Mugger).

Inside the meeting, Dexter is going off on all the workers for being lazy. When Peter walks in late, Bennet is actually impressed. He says that "Mister...Porker" is always running around coming from or going to somewhere. That's what he's looking for. He shows them the sketch of the new menace that was just outside the building (and no one managed to get a picture of him). He offers a ten thousand dollar bonus to whoever gets the first picture.

Back in costume, Spider-Man isn't too happy with the goblin-theme of the new menace. He's out looking but has run out of web-fluid saving the workers earlier. He also doesn't have any money to buy the ingredients to make more. Down an alley, he notices a little skirmish. It's a new hero, Jackpot, trying to stop a man. He throws her at Spider-Man and takes off. They chase him into the subway trying to stop him before he gets on a train. Turns out he has a gun and fires at them.

Spider-Man and Jackpot blame each other for the man getting away. She was after him because the word on the street is that he knows where the "gray goblin" is. Spider-Man doesn't want her throwing out Goblin names just yet. Jackpot claims the new menace as a member of her rogues's gallery. Spider-Man thinks that's funny. They are interrupted by an oncoming train. Spider-Man saves her and asks if her initials are "MJ." She says that defeats the point of a secret identity.

Later out with Harry, Lily and Carlie, Peter asks if he knows if Mary Jane is back in town. Harry asks if they're still fighting. Peter says they're not fighting, just not talking. Harry tells him to call her or find out if she's in L.A. Peter suddenly gets an idea about finding the menace.

Back at the DB, Spider-Man figures the menace's glider would leave a unique exhaust trail. Using a special pair of binoculars, he finds the trail.

Outside a warehouse he hears someone coming. He punches the person only to discover it's Jackpot. She says he probably did that so he can joke and say he "hit the jackpot." She apparently found the thug and he told her that this warehouse is being used the by the new menace. Turns out he broke in, killed the guys inside, and claimed it as his own. Spider-Man tells her that because of that, she should leave. She tells him that she's more prepared for this since she is registered and he's not. Before they can argue some more, a voice tells them they are under arrest under the jurisdiction of the Superhuman Registration Act.

Note: Menace does not make an actual full appearance in this issue.

Overview

Jackpot! Spidey vs. the Police! Menace! Triumphs, twists, turns and tragedy pack these two issues by Marc Guggenheim and Salvador Larrocca. And would you believe...Spider-Man sued? (Hey, that's what we get for having a former lawyer write these things...)

Spider-Man finds himself face-to-face with a "hero" named Blue Shield. He is there to place him under arrest. Jackpot apologizes to Spider-Man and pins his arms behind his back. With a tight grip on him, Blue Shield is able to attempt to remove his mask. Halfway off, Spider-Man breaks free when they get distracted by a maniacal laugh in the background.

Jumping up, he grabs onto the bottom of the Menace's glider. Taking a cue from Blue Shield, Spider-Man grabs Menace by the face in order to remove his mask. Spider-Man is zapped by an electrical blast and falls off Menace's back. He lands in the water below by the edge of a dock. Menace grabs him and tells him that was a warning. To show him he's not bluffing, he slices Spider-Man's chest and leaves. Too weak, Spider-Man passes out on the edge of the dock.

Spider-Man wakes up to a cup of coffee courtesy of Jackpot. She tells him she came back to stake out Menace's warehouse in the daylight. Spider-Man asks her what her name is again and says she reminds him of someone. She asks if he's going to tell her his name. He says it's "Flash Thompson." Spider-Man tells her it's her turn. She replies, "...Sara Ehret." Inside the warehouse they find blueprints to the Apollo Theatre in Harlem.

Later Peter calls Lily to find out if Harry was with her last night. She says yes and wonders why he's asking. He manages to avoid answering. Lily seems to understand and tells Peter she won't tell Harry he asked.

In the hospital, J. Jonah Jameson is awake and yelling about Parker. He says it's his fault he had a heart attack. When his complaints and threats almost gets a nurse to reveal that he no longer runs the Daily Bugle, Marla is able to prevent him from finding out just then.

In a law office, one of the workers at the Bugle that was attacked by Menace is talking to a lawyer. He claims that Spider-Man knocked him off the building and wants to sue him. The lawyer says they can go ahead with it. They'll serve him publicly in the papers. When he defaults on his court appearance, all they'll have to do is wait for Spider-Man to mess up and they'll be able to nail him.

Peter goes to the "DB" with photos of Menace, hoping for the ten grand bonus. Dexter Bennett tells him the photos are bad and he won't use them. They're not the quality he wants for the new DB. He also tells him that he still has a chance to earn the bonus.

Peter then tries investigating the spider-tracer murder. Betty Brant is able to help him get a lead on the detective in charge. Peter arranges an anonymous meeting with the officer. Meeting in the police evidence locker, Spider-Man sees that the tracer found was one of his older models that he doesn't use anymore. The sergeant then reveals that this wasn't just one killing. There's been five victims in the past three months. He tells Spider-Man that he has to hold him for questioning.

It's showtime at the Apollo as two mayoral candidates are having a debate. Menace arrives to cause havoc. When Spider-Man sees an explosion in the direction of Harlem, he tells the officer that he has work to do. As he starts going out the window, he finds several helicopters waiting for him.

Overview

Jackpot! Spidey vs. the Police! Menace! Triumphs, twists, turns and tragedy pack these two issues by Marc Guggenheim and Salvador Larrocca. And would you believe...Spider-Man sued? (Hey, that's what we get for having a former lawyer write these things...)

Spider-Man was about to investigate the explosion in the direction of Harlem when he found himself surrounded by police helicopters. Jumping out the window, they begin firing at him as he tries to crack jokes. Once again, he is out of web fluid. Falling to the streets below, he is saved by Jackpot, swinging by on a cable.

The police are still following and firing at them. Spider-Man actually doesn't mind them following as he's heading to the Apollo Theatre where the mayoral debate is going on. Menace has Councilwoman Parfrey in his grips. As Spider-Man and Jackpot arrive, Menace carries her out on his glider.

Spider-Man gets the idea to jump into a police helicopter. He promises them he'll let them arrest him if they help save the councilwoman. Jackpot joins them. Using his exhaust tracer, they manage to track down Menace and Parfrey. Spidey jumps down to them. He gets Parfrey out of Menace's grasp and literally throws her to Jackpot. Menace is ready to follow through with his earlier threat when Spider-Man decks him.

The fight goes on and Jackpot decides to help Spidey by jumping on Menace's back. Things get out of control. Spider-Man falls to the ground with Menace and Jackpot soon following. With the glider un-manned, it flies out of control...straight towards Councilwoman Parfrey. Spider-Man and Jackpot are too far to do anything other than yell for her to duck. Too late.

Menace tells Spider-Man it's all his fault even though they know it's really Jackpot's, who is on her knees crying. Menace disappears in a cloud of smoke. Jackpot pushes Spider-Man and tells him to get away from her. The police arrive to arrest him. He tells him it's not a good time. Even though he promised they could arrest him, he had his fingers crossed and leaves.

At the DB, he tries giving the best picture he could get of Menace. Dexter Bennett informs him that it's not the first picture. At the debate, there were television cameras plus cell phone cameras in the crowd. The picture Peter did manage to get shows Menace flying off with the late councilwoman. Dexter admires the impact of the photo and offers Peter two thousand since he can't rightfully give him the ten thousand dollar bonus. Peter says Jameson would've just given him fifty bucks and thinks to himself that'd be just enough to buy all the ingredients he needs to make more web-fluid. Things are looking good at the new DB.

Later Spider-Man tracks down the address of Sara Ehret. Knocking on the window, he sees a dark, short-haired woman. He asks if she wears a wig as part of the costume. She doesn't know what he's talking about. Spidey asks if her name is Sara and she says yes. Then he tells her that Jackpot gave her name as her identity. He doesn't know why his spider-sense didn't go off if she lied. Sara tells he should just stay out of it and closes the window.

Overview

BRAND NEW DAY continues with two new web-slingin’ creators: Oscar-nominated screenwriter Bob (Back to the Future) Gale and artist extraordinaire Phil (NEW X-MEN, Infinite Crisis) Jimenez! What starts as a petty theft from a local Soup Kitchen turns into a chase that results in the birth of a brand-freaking-new Spidey villain – and we mean “Freak” literally! Plus: more JJJ! More Daily Bugle – oops, we mean DB! Repercussions from the actions of new villain, Menace! Curt Connors! And – what you’ve really been waiting for, true believer – Peter Parker does his own laundry! Will those stains come out? And what ARE those stains anyway? Find out in “Just Blame Spider-Man!”

Jameson is still recovering in the hospital. He is going out of his mind because the doctors won't let him watch the news or read a newspaper. They fear he will have another heart attack. He still doesn't know that the Bugle has been bought by Dexter Bennett.

Dexter has named the DB, the "official newspaper of Spider-Man" and has plastered the headline "Spider-Man: Serial Killer" on the front page. As he barks orders at everyone and still doesn't know their names, they find themselves actually wishing Jonah was there.

Peter tries getting photos of Councilwoman Parfrey's funeral but it's closed to the press. He climbs in a tree and gets some good shots. He also sees Harry, Lily and her father there. He wonders what they are talking about as one of Bill Hollister's associates tells him he really should run for mayor against Crowne.

Peter heads over to the shelter to help out Aunt May. While he's there, the junkie known as Freak steals the donation box. Peter says he'll go after him and then changes into Spider-Man. He almost has Freak trapped in his new "wall web" that he's developed but Freak uses the fear of Spider-Man to start a mild panic in the crowd. All this and Spidey ends up tearing his pants (and he picked this day not to wear underwear). He gets Freak cornered on a rooftop but the donation box falls. When Spider-Man jumps down to try to gather the money before the crowd grabs it all, a couple of police officers show up. He leaves the money and takes off.

Freak also managed to take off by pulling himself out of his clothes that were webbed to some pipes. Trying to find his connection's meth lab, he falls into a skylight at a laboratory. He figures this is his lucky day when he finds several needles, not seeing the sign that says, "BIOHAZARD. Property of Curt Connors. BHK Stem Cell Project."

Back at the shelter, Peter arrives to see the two officers are there. Officer Gonzalez is sure Spider-Man is guilty but Aunt May tells him it was a drug addict everyone calls Freak. Peter also tells him that he ran after him until he saw Spider-Man go after him.

Later, Freak is in an alley massively throwing up. Cursing Spider-Man, he is enveloped by the gross stuff he threw up.

A fundraiser/petition signing party is being held to try to convince Lily's dad to run for Mayor. Peter feels obligated to make a donation after Harry makes a very kind donation. Lily tries telling him he can't make one since he works for the DB and that's a Crowne paper. He says he'll take the chance but Carlie crosses his name off, telling him she's protecting him from himself.

In the morning at the alley, a strange cocoon is hanging. When a waste management worker discovers it and tries touching it, it burns his fingers to the touch. Soon the police and Carlie are there trying to control the crowd and figure out what it is. In Connors' lab, he finds the mess and wonders what happened to his work. In the villains' Bar With No Name, wagers are made as to who will emerge from the cocoon ("that X-Men chick," her clone, Captain America, etc).

Peter is going out of his mind trying to wash the cement and goo off of his costume and patching up the rip when he sees the news report on the cocoon. He heads over there to take some pictures just in time to see it explode open. A hideous Freak of nature emerges...

Overview

More as Spidey battles the threat of Freak and his personal life falls apart around him.

Spider-Man looks down in the alley where the newly transformed Freak has emerged from his cocoon. The battery in his camera died so he can't take pictures. Several police officers are down there too. If he goes down, they'll try to arrest him for the serial killings he's been accused of. Freak starts moving and an officer with an itchy trigger fingers shoots him in the head when he doesn't stop. The shot sends him down into a service tunnel into the sewers. The officers think the problem is over but Freak forms another chrysalis to recover.

Carlie Cooper is able to take a sample of the remains of Freak's cocoon and takes it to her lab. Peter tries taking the only photo of the cocoon to Dexter Bennett. Bennett isn't too happy with it. He then sends Peter over to the Hollister press conference where he's announcing that he's running for mayor. Bennett reminds him that they are supporting Crowne and he wants pictures that will make Hollister look bad. This puts Peter in a bad place as he doesn't want to hurt Lily or Harry. He manages to get some perfectly timed photos and is unable to avoid being seen by Lily. Later Bennett is happy, especially with the one where you can see Hollister's nose hairs. When he mentions adding the credit to the photo on the front page, Bennett chooses this time to actually remember Peter's name.

At the NYPD headquarters, Curt Connors pays a visit to Carlie and they discuss the sample she found. Even though it's against procedure, she agrees to work with him.

Down in the sewers, Freak wakes up. He has changed again. He now has claws and webbed hands. His senses have increased and he continues to blame Spider-Man.

At the hospital, Jameson managed to bribe an orderly to get him a copy of the Bugle. Seeing a front page story on the Freak and the fact that the paper is called the "DB," Jameson has no idea this was his paper. He threatens to have his lawyers sue the "upstart" paper that stole their bugle logo.

Peter is at Aunt May's when Bennett calls him about a dedication Crowne is doing. Peter notes that the new batch of webbing he made is thicker than what he usually makes. He also added a tracking device onto his camera that picks up a sensor attached to his chest on his costume. The wide angle lens will now track his movement.

Freak makes his way out of the sewer tunnels. Still hungry, he kills a hot dog vendor and notices the torn pants of Spider-Man. Grabbing it, he realizes that he can now follow his scent. He then ends up at the dedication since Peter is there taking photos. He starts a commotion demanding that Spider-Man show his face since he knows he's there. Freak starts tearing things apart. It looks like Crowne may be in danger. Spider-Man's web shooters pick this moment to jam up.

Overview

More as Spidey battles the threat of Freak and his personal life falls apart around him.

At Raymond's meth lab (he's the dude that Freak buys his "stuff" from), they can hear sirens. The police are heading over to Randall Crowne's rally where Freak is causing a scene because he could smell Spider-Man nearby. Since his ventilator is broken, he leaves the window open. Spider-Man manages to save Crowne. He hopes Crowne will remember this but he just blames Spider-Man since Freak was looking for him. Freak continues going after Spider-Man until he catches a whiff of the drugs cooking at Raymond's. He leaves and tells Spider-Man not to try to stop him. Spider-Man replies by throwing a tracer on his tail.

Spider-Man checks his jammed webshooter and figures the thicker webbing must have gotten jammed. Grabbing his camera, he heads after Freak. He arrives to find Freak smoking some meth and the two dealers dead on the floor. Freak soon notices him and drops his lighter. Charging after Spider-Man, a fire soon starts. Freak goes after Spider-Man's face, wanting to make him as ugly as he is. This causes Spider-Man's mask to become shredded. The fire is building and Freak becomes engulfed in flames. The floors start collapsing and Spider-Man figures it's time to leave. Unfortunately the building is now surrounded by the police. They are authorized to use lethal force. Peter Parker emerges wearing nothing but an oversized jacket. He tells Officer Gonzalez that Spider-Man left after he took some pictures of him. The monster and the drug dealers (and his clothes) got burnt inside.

Peter heads over to the DB to sell his pictures to Dexter. Dexter loves the picture Peter shows him of Spider-Man saving Crowne at the rally. He gives him two thousand dollars for it. He plans on using it on the news that night as he promotes a big spread they'll be doing tomorrow.

Back at Aunt May's, Peter gets a call from Harry about a party they're having for Lily's dad declaring his run for mayor. Lily also invites Carlie. As Peter watches the news, he catches Dexter's promo. He shows the picture of Spider-Man and Crowne, saying Spider-Man was trying to assassinate him. He also claims that Spider-Man killed the "armadillo-man" that "heroically lured" him away. Peter is outraged. He now misses JJ. Jameson never made up news. He decides he should visit him in the hospital. Since it's technically Peter's fault he had the heart attack, he decides to go as Spider-Man.

Spider-Man brings him flowers and cigars. Jameson is pleased and says that he knew he wasn't all bad. Spider-Man asks him if the deal Marla arranged with Dexter was permanent. As he continues to tell him how Bennett now owns the Bugle and has changed the name to the DB, Jameson's heart starts racing and he has another heart attack. Spider-Man now finds himself locking lips with JJ once again, trying to revive him.

At the Hollister party, Lily mentions the horrible pictures the DB ran of her father. She thought Peter took them until she read the typ-oed credit. Harry says Peter would never make him look bad because of his ethics. Lily asks Peter if he'd be a spy for them and give them warning if Bennett was going to run a smear campaign against her father. She gets really close to Peter as she asks, making him wonder what her intentions are. Peter later talks to Carlie about her CSI work. She tells him about a scientist with one arm that came to her. Peter, at once, knows it was Connors. He decides to look him up.

Curt tells Spider-Man about the break in and that the junkie must have injected himself with stem cells from various mammals, amphibians and insects. He is continuing to evolve with each defeat. He tells Spider-Man that while he is in a chrysalis, they can stop him with high-ph quicklime. Spider-Man takes some and heads over to the scene of the fire.

The wreckage has been cleaned and Spider-Man doesn't know where Freak is. Connors tells him that he'll try to track down where the clean-up went to. He also says that with the change in weather, Freak's stasis will last longer.

Month Four of Brand New Day is upon us and so is the worst blizzard in the history of New York City! It’s colder than an outdoor hockey game in January out there and your favorite Wall-Crawler (aided by his Avengers buddy, Wolverine) must find his way through the cold to rescue a doctor who may know the real secret behind the deadly storm.

Spidey is out in the snow, fighting against a horde of bow and arrow slinging costumed bad guys.

It all started when he was Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorium and he asked Wolverine a simple question, "Is this your Fruit Loot?" Wolverine asks him about the headlines in the paper. Spidey quickly asks if he really thinks he'd kill someone. Wolverine tells him to relax because he knows he doesn't have it in him. Soon Dr. Strange's astral image arrives. Strange and Wolverine both mention that he should ask for help if he needs it since they are his teammates.

Spidey tells him that he'd rather handle his personal problems on his own. He jokingly tells Dr. Strange that it'd be a help if he made it stop snowing. Wolverine comments that he's using a Sorcerer Supreme as a weatherman.

Chanting some of his sorcerer mumbo jumbo, Strange basically says the storm is not natural and falls to the ground. Wolverine says that they need to check out what Strange said was going to go down at four o'clock.

Peter swings by the DB to check if any information has been received on Jonah's second heart attack. Betty tells him that strangely, Jonah isn't blaming Spider-Man for his heart attack. When he comes to, he just yells out Bennett's name. Bennett, himself, soon arrives and tells Peter he wants him in the city first thing in the morning to cover the storm's affect.

Later Spider-Man is sitting out in the cold waiting for Wolverine to show up. He sees a man running and jumps down to investigate. He soon sees three strangely armored guys with spears and arrows chasing the man.

Spider-Man sees the red glow of their eyes and recalls Strange's words on a threat with "eyes of red." He gets their attention and now they're after him. Trying to get to his stashed camera, Spider-Man almost gets an arrow in the back. It's blocked by Wolverine, who claims he used Spider-Man as bait to see how many there were.

The fight begins and Wolverine is close to dishing out some pain against the attackers. Spidey stops them and says they should alert the authorities. Wolverine passes to check on Dr. Strange. Spidey is left dragging the three goons to the police station through the snow.

On their way to the precinct, Spidey asks the dude why these guys were after him. He tells Spider-Man that he works with a team of engineers and mathematicians that were working on an algorithm that the Mayan culture may have used three hundred years ago. They started receiving threats from Mayan extremists saying the equations were sacred. That morning they were kidnapped and thrown in the back of a van. He just realizes that the rest of his team is still locked in the van. Spider-Man has to go back out in the van to save them before they (and he) freezes.

“Sometimes It Snows In April” (Come on it’s a Prince reference from 20 years ago! The day of the massively unhip editor is upon us) continues with Spidey caught in the middle of two ancient threats that are conspiring to take him and the city itself down.

Plus, Carlie trapped at the Police Station with someone after her blood!

Jameson lies in his hospital bed. His nurse makes him repeat a montra about letting go of the things he can't control. He agrees with it all, saying it's not his wife's fault and that he won't strangle Bennett. As soon as the nurse leaves, Jonah gets up out of bed. Taking his I.V. drip, he makes an effort to escape, in his hospital gown, out into the snowstorm. It takes two orderlies and the nurse to prevent him from leaving.

Out in the snow, Spider-Man is freezing his web-shooters off. He's questioning his decision to help search for the others (even though he knows it's the right thing).

At the police precinct, Officer Gonzalez is determined to hold the scientist as an accomplice of Spider-Man's. Carlie Cooper comes in and the man pleads for her to help. He tries telling her he's a victim since he was attacked by the Mayan extremists. He tells her about the algorithms he was working on. He says that reality is made up of more than the four dimensions. The problem he was facing is the code used symbols, the same symbols tattooed on the extremists sitting in the holding cell. This day is the end of a five day cycle where the wall between dimensions is at its weakest and a Mayan Deity will cross over. This deity, Kuhul Ajaw will demand a blood sacrifice and the extremists feel it should be his. A little later, Vin tries talking to Carlie about his needing a new roommate. Before he can ask her, she says that Peter is a great guy and needs a place.

Spider-Man runs into a homeless man (who thinks S.H.I.E.L.D. is after him. Soon Kuhul Ajaw arrives demanding his blood sacrifice. He asks Spider-Man if he is the sacrifice. When he says no, Kuhul Ajaw slams him aside.

The fight goes on until Kuhul Ajaw tells Spider-Man that he carries the "sun-blood" and is not the sacrifice. He asks Spidey if he's a priest. Hesitating, Spidey replies yes. Kuhul Ajaw says "good" and leaves. Spidey is back on his search.

Spider-Man finally finds the van. He tells them that Rabin (the scientist) sent them. Spider-Man is told that Rabin killed one of the others. He has to be stopped.

Back at the station, Rabin starts talking to the locked up extremists. When Carlie walks in, she finds him standing before the dead extremist with a crazed look in his eyes.

The frighteningly funky and fearsome Freak returns, more powerful than ever! And this action-packed issue features the gorgeous art of Barry Kitson – fresh from Marvel’s THE ORDER! Plus: Menace! Curt Connors! Aunt May! Lots of innocent bystanders! Gale wrote it, Wacker edited it, and Marvel actually thought it was a good idea to publish it!

Peter Parker wakes up from a nightmare in which Freak is about to unmask him. He realizes that since the snow blizzard is over, Freak will most likely be emerging from his chrysalis stronger than he was before. He and Dr. Connors still haven't been able to locate it. At breakfast, he decides to tell Aunt May that he'll be moving out. He feels bad and doesn't want to leave her on her own. She turns away and says it'll be fine. Peter now thinks she's so hurt that she can't even look at him. In the other room, May thinks to herself, "Yessss!"

At Connor's lab, Curt is beating himself up over leaving the serums out rather than lock them up. He tells Spider-Man that the chrysalis will probably hatch this day. He's prepared some maximum pH that should be able to keep the chrysalis in stasis if they can find it in time. Curt tells Spider-Man that the worst case scenario would involve him needing to kill Freak. Spider-Man says there's no way he'll do that. Curt says that he can't actually be killed but perhaps suffocation or strangulation would work. Spider-Man is not comfortable with this even when Curt mentions that it's for the safety of others.

J. Jonah Jameson has been released from the hospital and returns home. To his surprise, Marla is not there. She's left a video message saying that she's left town and changed her number. She says she knows he may never forgive her for selling the Bugle but she did it out of concern for his health. She says she will not discuss the matter with him until he is fully rehabilitated and can control his temper. Jameson is ready to throw the television when the last part of her messages says she loves him and will forever. Now Jonah stands alone thinking over his actions.

Bill Hollister is having a campaign conference outside the shelter that Aunt May volunteers at. Peter is there covering the event, trying to get unflattering photos for Dexter Bennett. Peter gets a call from Dr. Connors (on his untraceable cell phone) saying that he's found out where the wreckage that contains Freak's chrysalis must be. He's on his way there with the pH. Peter gets ready to go when Menace appears to threaten Hollister. He tells him to drop out of the mayoral race or he will "face the consequences." Hollister refuses and Spider-Man appears. Officer Gonzalez announces that they have snipers all around. This makes it hard for Spider-Man to take out Menace. He has no choice but to go the opposite way of Menace in order to meet Connors to deal with Freak.

Just as Spider-Man arrives at the salvage yard, Freak breaks out of the debris. He recognizes Spider-Man right away and wants to destroy him for all that he's done to him. He tries setting him up amidst the wreckage but his plan doesn't work. Seeing Curt, he yells out, calling him his partner and tells him to take the drugs to his other hideout. Connors is confused but when Freak hears "drugs" he tears at Connors' car. Seeing two large packages filled with a white substance, Freak is like a kid in a candy store. Within moments he's knocked out and reverts to his chrysalis form.

Peter later meets with Harry as they watch news coverage of the mayoral race. Peter is concerned when Lily sends a message to Menace to "bring it" concerning the threats he made. Harry says they'll take precautions and isn't worried over it. Peter wonders if his calmness could have anything to do with Menace's similarities to the Goblin. He also thinks to himself that he hopes the authorities place Freak's chrysalis in a safe place. The scene cuts to the hazmat unit taking away Freak's body. Underneath the sign on the truck for the NYPD is a logo for Oscorp Enterprises...

Overview

Are Pete's paparazzi pics inspiring a super celebrity stalker? Is he responsible for all of her grisly acts? Even if he is, what can Spider-Man do about it? How can anyone stop the flatout freaky powers of Paper Doll? Also: Miss this issue, and you'll miss out on SOMETHING YOU'VE ALL BEEN ASKING FOR!!!

They say a picture's worth a thousand words... Well, for Peter Parker, the right picture is worth a million bucks! And what he does with it is really gonna change his life! This is a big one, Spidey Fans! We've got shake ups and break ups! Fake outs and freak outs! And a fight to the finish with one of Spider-Man's strangest foes: the fiendishly foldable PAPER DOLL! Miss this one, Marvelite, and you'll miss out on the BEST mystery guest of the YEAR! Here's a hint...she's a redhead!

Flashback to Paperdoll. When her powers first developed, her parents didn't know what to do. Paperdoll would lock herself in her rooms and watch old Bobby Carr movies. One night, she believed that he spoke to her through her television saying they were meant to be together.

Today. Paperdoll reads the paper saying that Bobby may have found the "one," a mysterious red-head. She won't have that and heads to his private estate in the Hamptons. Peter has been flown out by Dexter and promised two million dollars if he gets a shot of Bobby's mysterious girlfriend. Outraged, Robbie Robertson quits the DB.

Sitting in a tree as Spider-Man, little does he know that the mysterious girl is Mary Jane. She has been coming out from L.A. for some time now to visit Bobby. She's not used to the secrecy but Bobby wants this part of his life kept out of the spotlight. Spider-Man notices the strange effect that follows Paperdoll and heads closer to the house. Leaving his camera on auto, a picture of Mary Jane and Bobby is taken.

Inside, Bobby asks MJ if perhaps they could bring some of her friends over. She tells him that she hasn't told them that she's been coming out. As they prepare for bed, Paperdoll makes herself known to Bobby. MJ attacks Paperdoll, who is angered that she is even there. As Paperdoll moves to attack MJ, Bobby tells her to go to the panic room in the closet. As the door closes, Spider-Man arrives. MJ is able to watch the battle on several monitors. When she mentions that he's always making jokes, Spider-Man asks the voice if they've met. MJ says in another life.

Spider-Man's arm is hit by Paperdoll's life sucking force. He recalls what Carly mentioned while examining one of Paperdoll's vicitims. It seems that the body was compressed and couldn't take in enough oxygen. Plugging Paperdoll's nose and mouth, she is forced back. Spider-Man grabs Paperdoll and heads to the bottom of Bobby's pool. Underwater, she begins to turn three-dimensional. As she comes out of the pool, Bobby is there, just like in his movie, and knocks out Paperdoll. Spidey asks why he didn't go in the panic room and he tells him that this is his personal life and wanted to fight for it.

At the DB, Peter tells Dexter that he has photos of Spider-Man fighting Paperdoll and may even have a photo of the mystery girl. Rather than give the camera's memory card to Dexter, Peter snaps it in half. Dexter is ticked off. Peter is fired. This time he actually remembers Peter's name. Dexter informs him that he never gets a person's name wrong if they are on his list. It turns out he knows his complete name, parents' names, where he went to college and high school and even how much he weighed at birth. Peter is now at the top of the list.

Peter later moves in with Officer Vincent Gonzalez. He does it as a favor to Carly. Even though he has a thing for her, it's become evident that she has a thing for Peter. Harry arrives and says he forgives Peter for being a paparazzi. He tells Peter he won't hassle him if he wants to pay him back the money he owes him. Peter gives him the last of his paparazzi money.

At the airport, Mary Jane contemplates calling Peter. She is recognized by a fan who asks for her autograph. It turns out the fan is Sara Ehret, the name that Jackpot gave to Spider-Man as her secret identity. Sara asks MJ if she'll be coming back again, and MJ says she has no idea.

It's Web-Slinger vs. Wall-Crawler as artist extraordinaire Mike McKone (FF, The Exiles) joins writer Bob Gale to answer the question – who is “The Other Spider-Man?” It ain't comin' down to another clone saga is it? If so, send all complaints to 1994!

Remember that joke that starts, “So Spider-Man walks into a bar, and…?” Well, when it’s the villain-filled Bar With No Name, it’s no joke – it’s a barroom brawl as only Mike McKone can draw it! And that’s only the beginning of one of the most maddening nights in Spidey’s life! Throw in The Enforcers, The Bookie, and a climax at Coney Island, and you’ve got a recipe for the nuttiest Spider-Man story this year. Gale didn’t tell us what he was drinking when he wrote it, but it must have been pretty good stuff!

It's a good old fashioned He Said/He Said/He Said when Spidey, Vin Gonzales and SWING SHIFT Heavy OVERDRIVE find themselves in a car chase across the Big Apple! Three members of our Braintrust's best give you each side of the same story, as Gale, Guggenheim and Slott team up for “TRAFFIC JAM!”

(SPOILERS)

The story starts of with Spider-Man chasing Overdrive in one of his "tricked out" vehicles. When Spidey finally catches up with him, he punches Overdrive right in the face, when punched in the face, Overdrive couldn't control the car and it crashes and flips into the air. Officer Vin Gonzales in his civilian clothes saw what happened and he calls the police and he pursuits on foot. Spider-Man then uses his webbing and catches Overdrive's car in the air and webbed it in between two buildings. Overdrive escapes the car by punching Spider-Man but before Spider-Man could get off the car, Officer Gonzales attempts to arrest him. Spider-Man then said that he can't arrest him and that he was the good guy so he swings off to catch Overdrive.

Overdrive then gets into a school bus and then "tricks out" the school bus making it black, Spider-Man jumps in and kicks Overdrive in the face and then persuades Overdrive to surrender but then Overdrive said that he had a better idea and he pointed and shot the Sonic Pulse Generator at Spider-Man causing him to fall out of the bus but Spider-Man hangs on with his web, Overdrive then takes the wheel. Spider-Man then decided to go for Plan B and starts creating a "web bag" at the back of bus. Spider-Man takes on Overdrive again but this time, he snatches the Sonic Pulse Generator off him and shoots it to the back of the bus causing the back door to open. Spider-Man tells the children on the bus to jump into the web bag and they did so and Spider-Man takes the web bag of the bus. When Spider-Man turned back, Overdrive was no longer at the wheel.

We then leave that scene and we go to The Bronx about an hour later where Vin Gonzales tell Detective Simmons what happened but before he started telling him what happened, he told Detective Simmons that Peter Parker put him in a bad mood. Peter was looking for a job over on the phone but he was overheard by Gonzales and they had a argument and Gonzales told Peter that he didn't want to see his face for the rest of the day while he took his father to a baseball game. While they were walking to the stadium, the Spider-Man and Overdrive incident happened. When Spider-Man escaped, Gonzales went on a taxi and chased the school bus but when Gonzales got there, Overdrive had already escaped but he did see Spider-Man again when Spider-Man was helping the children in the webbing. Gonzales had his gun out again but this time Spider-Man shot his webbing out at the gun and blocking it. After hearing that, Detective Simmons told Gonzales not to try and be a cop 24/7, he reminded him that he'll end up with no friends, no family, and no life. We then see Gonzales' dad sitting in the stadium by himself.

We then go one hour later in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where Mr. Negative and his men beat Overdrive because Overdrive didn't complete the task Mr. Negative set him. Overdrive then explained what happened... Overdrive drove a monster truck into the labratory and grabed the Sonic Pulse Generator and ran off into another car with it but that was when Spider-Man appeared, Overdrive managed to escape when Spider-Man was evacuating the children in the school bus. After he crawled out of the shcool bus, he stole a motorcycle and used his power on it once again. Mr. Negative then told Overdrive that he has heard enough and asked him where the Sonic Pulse Generator was and Overdrive told him that it was in police custody, we then see Carlie Cooper putting the Sonic Pulse Generator in a bag and talking to Vin. Carlie said that she was proud of Vin and Vin then asked Carlie if she wanted to meet his dad.

We then go back to where Mr. Negative and Overdrive was and Mr. Negative told his men to dipose him and the men put him into the trunk of the Mr. Negative's limo. Overdrive then escapes by converting Mr. Negative's limo into one of his own, one of the man asked what he should do now and Mr. Negative told him to dispose of the men who put Overdrive in there.
