    Mediocre in nearly every way...

"Booster Gold" #47 is the final issue in a series that's a casualty of DC's New 52. The current storyline has been directly tied into the Flashpoint event and has actually felt important. While this final issue gives us some fun moments, overall it's nowhere near as significant as the buildup would have you believe.

I've felt that "Booster Gold" has been a book more people should be reading. Jurgens had crafted an entertaining Doomsday story that moved at a deliberate pace but teased me with the feeling that something big was going happen. Sadly the finale doesn't deliver  at all. It feels as though Jurgens ran out of time therefore condensing the remaining story into this one issue. We get an odd but fairly entertaining Doomsday battle before hurrying off to the front lines of the Aquaman and Wonder Woman war. The second half of the book feels even more rushed than the first and features some truly head-scratching moments. It's underwhelming conclusion is disappointing and I really hoped there was a clearer vision for this story than what we were given.

The art takes a serious step back. Jurgens had done a great job giving this series a clean classic look. Here he only does the final three pages leaving the rest for Rick Leonardi whose art looks as rushed as the story. There are some jarring character inconsistencies from panel to panel and there is no real attention to detail in his characters or his backgrounds. Even Jurgens' three pages looked hurried and fell short of what he has delivered before.

I can't call this issue terrible. I enjoyed the Doomsday battle even with it's convenient and rather silly end. But there isn't much more that lived up to my expectations. This is a very average issue and a below average way to end a story with such promise. I hate to see Booster go out on such a mediocre note but that's exactly what this issue is...mediocre.

Review for Booster Gold #47.  The Story: Booster and Alexandra are being held by Nate but escape.  The Good: Alexandra has proven herself to be a character with potential because the way she deals with Doomsday might be cheap to some but I taught it was a great way to assert herself. Jurgens always has a good voice for Booster and it's nice to have Jurgens and Rapmund end the series.  The Bad: Michael and Barry don't really team up, BG kinda drops in on him and leaves when he has enough chronal ...
