X-Force
is a comic volume from Marvel Publishing that started in 1991
Soon after Cable became the leader of the New Mutants he disbanded the team and formed a new group. X-Force was more militant and aggressive than the X-Men. Cable wanted the team to become an army to fight in the war to protect mutants. Instead of waiting for villains to attack them, they went in search of the aggressors. It was a title that reflected the trend in muscular characters of the early 1990's. It slowly evolved into a team that worked alongside the X-Men, and even became a group of lone teenagers on a long road trip. After many years the team became militant once more, with an emphasis on black ops and stealth. However, it was not enough to revive the waning popularity of the title.
The traditional X-Force was then replaced. The title continued numerically, but with a completely different cast of characters and creative team. The new look X-Force lasted for 17 issues before it was re-launched as the X-Statix.
