Are the news gods smiling down upon me? Last week, I got to write about Zac Efron, and now Robert Pattinson? I'm totally fast-tracking myself to be a writer for Teen Bop! BlueWater Comics announced that Robert Pattinson, that guys from the shiny vampires movies, (Twilight) will have his own biography comic! Apparently, BlueWater is cashing in on the Twilight craziness.
This guy has had world renowned fame for what, two years? Now there's a 32 page comic about him? Bluewater is known for doing these bios for a couple years now, the first big one being their Obama/ McCain split. I read those two, they were pretty interesting, but on the other hand, those two men, led extraordinary, full lives. I'm not saying Mr. Pattinson hasn't led an amazing life, but he's only 24, and become famous a couple years ago. You never know, maybe he spent years in Nigeria helping starving kids. Maybe I'm a bit too cynical. Anyway, interior artist Nathaniel Ooten had his own take on this book:There's more to Pattinson than fake fangs, faraway looks and tousled hair. Pattinson is an accomplished musician, a former model and an actor who's played both a wizard at Harry Potter's Hogwarts School and the artist Salvador Dali.
Bluewater Productions in May will ship FAME: Robert Pattinson to comic book shops and retailers across the country. This 32-page comic will trace Pattinson's career from his first performance in Tess of the D'Urbervilles at London's Barnes Theatre to his star turn in the Twilight movies.
Writer Kim Sherman said that she is eager to introduce fans to the many sides of Pattinson.
"Working on this book has opened an entirely new level of Rob Pattinson for me," Ooten said. "Before starting, I was only aware of the 'teenage vampire' Pattinson. After reading the script, studying the subject and listening to his music, I not only became very interested in Pattinson's future work, but also discovered a new appreciation for this 'teenage vampire.'"
Entertainment Weekly made a defense argument for this book, since there are so many haters talking about this project:
There's flaw in that argument. Did Bluewater sell out of several printings or did retailers? I know we sold out, but then again, we only ordered, at most, 3 copies, and none of which were for the shelf, all for customers who pre-ordered it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt the Stephenie Meyer book pulled in big numbers, much like the Obama and McCain books did.Their Stephenie Meyer comic, published in November 2009, has sold out of several printings.
Look, I've got nothing personal against this guy. He makes movies I don't watch, women swoon over him, and that's great for him. I could even say I'm happy for him. (But did I say it there? You be the judge) I'm sure he worked hard to get where he's at now. He's essentially in the same boat as Zac Efron is with me. I don't watch their stuff, I don't care, but I'm sure they're great at what they do.
Then why do I seem ornery? It seems like a waste of money and talent. I'm sure some people will pick this book up and pre-order it, but is it worth all the time and effort? Well, at least a writer and some artists are getting work. I guess I'll try and stay positive about something that just doesn't make sense to me.
What do you guys think? Is a Mr. Pattison comic something you'd pick up?
