In the world of the Minutemen, Bluecoat was a fictional comic book character who fought crime along with his sidekick, Scout. Following World War II, a man calling himself Bluecoat, and wearing a costume similar to the comic book character went to the Minutemen and informed them that a group of Japanese terrorists were plotting to cause a nuclear meltdown at the Statue of Liberty to get revenge for the United States' bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Bluecoat is shot and killed while trying to stop the terrorists, but the Minutemen and Scout are able to stop them. Afterwards it was revealed by Scout that the man posing as Bluecoat was his father, and they were both Japanese-Americans. Bluecoat's wife had died in an internment camp during World War II, and he and his son had been part of the terrorist plot, but soon realized the folly of their ways and went to the Minutemen to stop it.
