durakken's Blue Beetle #3 - Metamorphosis, Conclusion review

    The scarab never writes home...

Art - In general the art is run of the mil and passable, but it begins to get weird if you pay attention to the faces of the characters and their reactions and such. They don't seem to match with what is going on at all. For example there is a scene where Brenda is talking to her aunt saying thank you and her body is is in a surprised backing off position. Other than that it's average and to par.

Story - Basically everyone gets mad, the Reach reach Earth, and Jaime gets out of the armor. Not much going on there at all. while it's not a really good story, it's a needed story for the transition given that Jaime was locked in the suit the last issue with no way out so we had to have an issue where he could get out of the suit and exposit a bit on what's happening. So, leaving that aside... the main pressing issue with this series right now is, why did that woman want the blue beetle and how does she know anything about it? I wish that were answered by now. I guess we have to wait and hopefully it will be revealed later.

Characterization - Jaime and the Scarab are handled well enough but the only thing that really happens is everyone gets angry so not much characterization going on here. This series I think could really be made better by someone like Geoff Johns who loves his stupid "witty" banter. It would work for Scarab and Jaime.

The biggest problem with this book thous is that it uses a lot of Spanglish and not everyone understands what is being said. Thankfully it doesn't ruin the story, but I really wish there would be a translation so those of us who don't speak Spanish could actually understand what is being said in some cases.

The Good: Ig Guara's artwork is just amazing. The fighting is so dynamic, and there's a thin sort of roundness to everything that's just spectacular. I get so pumped up about Ig Guara's artwork, but 3 issues in, its hard to find something new to gush about. Let's just leave it at it's spectacular. The Scarab provides some interesting plot devices to drive the development of the story. He and Jaime have such a forced partnership, they're almost like enemies forced to work in tandem, but its so mu...
