Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, who currently write Nova, devised this little mini series back in 2002 concentrating on vampire hunter, Elsa Bloodstone. Despite being more than a little Buffy in its set up, the series' four issues used a range of pop cultural references for its covers. No1 was Dracula (via Hammer horror), 3 was Tomb Raider and 4 was Raiders of the Lost Ark, all good covers, if a little naughty. Best of all though was this, which I think is riffing on Barbarella. I love the 60s style lettering on the side and Elsa herself is stunningly drawn. It's all good, clean fun. I have ranked this cover no 164 as part of a long term project I am producing on my own blog 'marvel-ous' on blogspot.com re: my favourite marvel comic book covers.
