Vampires Who Could Maybe, Possibly Party with Cassidy
Twilight and the bored housewife school of vampire erotica that the Syfy Book Club peddles burnt me out on vampires. One stereotype after another... Guh. And then they crept into comics. Dammit! As an old school Tomb of Dracula fan, I took a chance on Blood Brothers. I read that something about opium and orgies, and I was sold. However, this exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds.
Using another visual medium to give you some idea of what this comic is like, the dynamic between Nick and Tree reminds me of Psych on USA, but the maturity of the book is more appropriate for HBO or Showtime. Nick and Tree have been friends for over 1000 years of their undead lives, but some bad financial decisions have lead to them having to work as bounty hunters in Vegas and taking abuse from their bail bondsman boss. Plus! Nick seeeeems to be having a hard time getting over his human gf, Jill--who is totally in the dark about her fella's true nature. The truth of that situation leaves a bad taste in Tree's mouth, and it isn't Roy's overpriced AB Positive. Plus! A vampire wannabe needs Nick's blood in order to resurrect an older than Abe Vigoda vampire lord. All this, and a shark hook.
I like fun comics. This comic was a Friday night. 4 stars because it didn't come with pizza or a lapdance.
