Question of the day: What is your current favorite comic book?

Added by Kieran Marvel on Nov. 7, 2008

Suprising to some i'm sure.

I'm not actually following a massive amount of comics at the moment though but credit where credits due, Peter David is exelling at the moment and the ending of the last issue of X Factor was sensationaly gripping.

I'm loving the Magneto testament because of the historical accuracy and how well it's dealing with a sensative issue. I would however like to see more indications to Magneto's mutation in the next issue.

Added by grkpektis on Nov. 7, 2008

fallen angel.  It is consistently amazing every issue

Added by Baal Zak on Nov. 7, 2008

If I have to pick just one, it will be Hack/Slash.
Cassie rulz!

But I think that my favorite books right now are Justice Society of America, The Darkness, The Sword, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Kick-Ass and All Hail Megatron.

Added by Slinger on Nov. 7, 2008

Gotta go with ASM. Mostly because I just got all of the back-issues from the Straczynski run that I was missing. Second Place goes to Thor (another Straczynski book,) and third is The Incredible Hercules. Honorable mention goes to The New Avengers. They'll probably be back on top when they start doing actual Avengers stories again and not SI filler.

Added by power surge on Nov. 7, 2008

my favorite comics are the darkness

Added by InvincibleSpawn on Nov. 7, 2008

Right now Invincible, but of all time The Green Lantern. Invincible in my opinion is Spider-man if he was Superman's son. He's like most teenagers just a regular guy except his dad is the most powerful superhero on Earth.

Added by xax on Nov. 7, 2008

i think every 1's life is like a comic...

Added by Meteorite on Nov. 7, 2008

Even though I haven't read the most recent issues, I'm really enjoying the Runaway series. It really has that feel of the modern teenager, and more to the point, the Runaways all have awesome powers and rock!

Two things why I enjoy this: Geoff Johns and Gary Frank.

The Sonic the Hedgehog series of lately seems to be a like a serious kid show that everyone can enjoy and won't be disappointed. Tracy Yardley is a great artist that makes the comic actually look like a cannon series from SEGA.

Even the fattest of foes eventually fall before the power of Thor!
Thor as well as the Secret Invasion three-parter kicks so much @$$ isn't even funny. Sure it reads like a Shakspearean Court Drama but when you compare both Matt Fraction and JMS' interperatations of the mainstream Thor to oh let's say Jeph Loeb's interperatation of Ultimate Thor, I think you'll probably choose Matt Fraction/JMS' Thor over Loeb's any day of the week.

Added by Death-Fang on Nov. 7, 2008

Spider man is an instant classic and hes got human characteristics like a job and school  i think its very believable with a few super human twists!!

Added by Nobody on Nov. 7, 2008

Hard like Chuck Norris's Beard
This series has really become...well...amazing since Brand New Day has started. I haven't laughed at a comic as much as I did this new issue in a very long time. This series really reminds me while Spidey was and is my favorite superhero. I haven't seen that in a long time.

Runner Up:

FOR ASGARD!
FOR ASGARD!
Thor's newest stuff has really been awesome. I haven't really been a huge fan of the character, but this stuff is making me one. I can wait till they unleash him on the rest of the Marvel Universe and get his butt out of Asgard.

Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing?
Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing?
I've always loved the character She-Hulk. She is funny, hot, and powerful all wrapped up into one. Her series is fun and entertaining and usually comical. I always enjoy reading each issue I get.

Added by Satyrquaze on Nov. 7, 2008

This book has been extemely entertaining since #1 and has shown no signs of relenting. From the resolution of Annihilation, through Annihilation: Conquest, now with Secret Invasion and with War of Kings yet to come DnA are unparrelled in telling cosmic stories at the moment.

Space Cops have never been this interesting.

I have no clear favourite, there are many good books right now but no awesomely super-great one. If i were to choose just one i'd say Avengers: The Initiative. I particurlary like the use of so many old C- and D- list characters.

Honorable mentions for Nova, Captain Britain, X-Factor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thunderbolts and Incredible Hercules.

I really enjoy all the books I read but there are a few I'm enjoying more than the others.

Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey
The current storyline with the Joker and Barbara Gordon getting closer and closer to a showdown is really getting me excited for each new issue that comes out.  I like all the characters in the book, especially Barbara/Oracle who has always been a favorite of mine.  Right now, whenever I pick up a new issue, is the first thing that I read when I get home.

Secret Six

Secret Six
Secret Six
It's warped, it's twisted, it's darkly funny.  The characters are great, unique, and just freakin' insane.  The villain is one of the most creepy, disturbing evil bastards out there.  It's my absolute favorite book right now.  Great writing, love the art, love the whole plot.

Action Comics

Action Comics
Action Comics
The whole New Krypton saga is off to a great start but specifically "Action Comics" has been just amazing lately.  Geoff Johns' Brainiac story was incredible.  It's a great time to be reading Superman stories but especially if you're reading action comics.

For me, nothing will ever top the classic Justice League Europe and Justice League International/America. They had some of my favorite characters (Fire, Ice, Silver Sorceress, Booster Gold, Crimson Fox) in some of the most ridiculous situations.

As for current comics, I'd have to say Checkmate. It's a great spy book with heroic aspects to it. I really can't get enpugh of it.

I don't read anything current, well except for Tarot maybe but I don't like the current stuff so much BUT here are my top three of all time.

#3 Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose

First off, yes we all know its a nudity-filled book about busty witches who fight magical threats and than celebrate with sexual relations, BUT...I still do enjoy some stuff from it, just pretend I'm only including the first twenty or so issues of the series, and not the newer stuff, although I admit the newer stuff does teach some nice life lessons and such.

#2 Books of Magic

Now before you get the wrong idea, no I am not talking about the seventy-five issue series, I'm only on issue two in that volume, rather I am talking about the four-issue miniseries that started it all. It is beyond words and I encourage ANY and EVERY comic book fan to pick it up, the art is amazing despite the era and the story is magnificent, especially if you enjoy the magical aspect of the DC Universe. In fact this series may have even grown to surpass Lucifer if it had more issues...pfft, who am I kidding, nothing can surpass Lucifer.

#1 Lucifer

Yes, the greatest comic book of all time, if you don't believe me read it for yourself. Yes, I won't lie, not every issue is flawless, in fact few are, the same thing with every series, but as a grand collection of comics, the series IS flawless, a magnificent story that I have truly enjoyed watching unfold. Anyways, if you are of age and maturity to read a comic, read Lucifer and join me as its loyal fanboy!!!

Added by Yoshimitsu on Nov. 9, 2008

Both series' have kept me running to the local comic shop to pick up the latest issues. I'll keep reading them until they stop printing.

Well, all two of you are probably wondering, "which DC book is this @55h01e going to pick?" well, you'd be mistaken then. My favorite book is actually a Marvel book. I'll let the shock sit in....

The best current series...
The best current series...
As much as I'd love to say it's Green Lantern or Batman, this current run of Cap has been nothing short of phenomenal. And even though Steve was killed off and replaced by James, the book is stronger than ever. I cannot think of a time where someone else took over the mantle of ANY character and the comic stayed strong. Better yet, the comic got better after a character took over. Brubaker's writing is amazing. This plays out like a 10 hour long movie so far and I hope he continues writing this book for a long while.

and then, we have the art. Epting's pencil and inks, along with D'Armata's coloring have been the most enjoyable artwork I've seen in years. I love looking at this book. It doesn't even feel like a superhero book, which is probably my favorite part of this series.

There's nothing negative I can really say about this book, other than, I hope Steve doesn't come back, and Steve is one of my favorite characters of all time.

currently i am enjoying plenty of great title that keep having me come back monthly.  but you know it's your fav when you reach the last page of the book and you say to your self  "come on i have to wait!" then you wait in anticipation for that next issue to come out. so following this guideline i would have to say it's X-force. the artwork is just plain amazing the story has you hooked in asap and 32 pages just don't seem like enough.

Added by HaloKing343 on Dec. 26, 2008

To all of you who put anything other than Captain America, stand by for General McArthur to dig himself out of his grave, hunt you down, and imprision you for being the communist that you are.

No seriously, I think Ed Brubaker and Geoff Johns are the making the absolute best comics out there right now.  So if its a Marvel book by Ed or a DC book by Geoff, I say its tied for the best.

Added by sterling on Jan. 19, 2009

He is the only one at marvel right now who is doing anything worth reading.  Green Lantern has been solid for a long time now and the people putting "blackest night" together obviously know what they are doing.  But other than that..."wasteland" and "air" are both really good titles that everyone should be reading.

Added by dwalls31 on Feb. 20, 2009

I would have to go with two Vertigo titles. I read a lot of comics and keep up with all of the superhero fare, but these two Vertigo books are the most consistent of what I collect and they go to the top of the read pile when new comic day arrives.
