Former mutant with odd but very formidable powers. Now de-powered.

Origin

Fred J. Dukes was born in Lubbox Texas and was a member of a circus sideshow. He went by the name of Blob during his stay with the circus. When Professor X sensed his Mutant power, he sent the X-Men out to locate the Dukes. They discovered Fred at the circus demonstrating his abilities as a side-show freak. Fred was uninterested in meeting with the X-Men until he saw Jean Grey, and agreed to go along with them to get to know her.

First Apperance

After submitting himself to a battery of tests, Professor X determined that the Blob was a mutant as he suspected. He extended Fred an invitation to be an X-man. The rest of the team didn't like him for his obnoxious attitude. He refused the invitation because he believed himself to be better and stronger than than the entire team. The Blob attempted to leave, but Professor X knew that he couldn't allow him to just walk out knowing their secret identities. The X-Men attempted to restrain him while Xavier tried to erase his mind of the whole ordeal, but despite their efforts he managed to escape.

Fred had always believed himself to just be stronger than most other guys, however he now knew the true source of his abilities. Now knowing about his powers he was determined not to let anyone else tell him what to do. Returning to the circus he demanded that the other performers follow him as their leader.

The Blob returned to Xavier Institute for Higher Learning with the rest of the circus folk and tried to take over. Under Blob's leadership the performers were able to assist in subduing the X-Men. Alone in the mansion, Xavier perfected a device that would amplify his abilities to control the entire crowd. He mentally instructed Marvel Girl to free the other X-Men, and they were able to get the drop on the Blob and his team before they were able to take down Xavier as well. He and the rest of the circus people were stopped by the X-Men all of their memories of their encounter with the X-Men were erased. Blob and the other performers went back to their dull lives, none having any recollection of the events that transpired. Despite having removed the Blob's memories, Professor Xavier knew that one day the Blob may regain his memories of the X-Men and become a danger to the world once again.

Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants

The Mutant known as Magneto sought out the Blob. Blob's memories were returned when he got a hit to the head. After this happened he accepted the invitation Magneto gave him and joined the team, but later when it was shown that Magneto had no real concern for Blob's safety, he left the brotherhood. He later joined Mystique's Freedom Force but left the team after the incident in the Middle East where most of the team was either killed or incapacitated. After Freedom Force he joined his friend Toad's Brotherhood before that team also dissolved. He was also in another Brotherhood led by Charles Xavier and even became leader after he left. Months later Mystique formed another Brotherhood and he joined the team yet again.

He also for a short time was a member of the X-Corps alongside fellow villain Avalanche and attacked the base when Mystique launched an attack on the base. He was stopped by the efforts of the X-Men.

When Exodus recreated the Brotherhood Fred offered to join but was quickly dismissed cause he was "useless" to Exodus. This hit his already low self esteem very hard. He then went to see a therapist Sean Garrison. After the sessions he went to the mansion and attacked but was defeated by the combined efforts from the New Mutants and the Hellions.

M-Day

After M-Day in which Scarlet Witch got rid of the X-gene in which 90% of the mutant population was powerless, Blob was one of these depowered mutants. After this his though his skin did not shrink to compensate the loss of his bloated mass, giving him huge folds of loose skin all over his body. The depressed Blob tried to commit suicide but couldn't because he couldn't cut through the layers of skin he has.

Blob is next seen in the prisons for the mutants the Thunderbolts apprehended. Which he apparently he escaped, because his next appearance is as a member of X-Cell.

Size

Height: 8'0" Weight: 876 lbs.

Powers

Frederick J. Dukes has the power to create a gravitational field that keeps him virtually unmovable. He also has a degree of super-strength and durability. His fat tissues can deflect bullets and even cannonballs. His skin cannot be punctured, frostbitten or lacerated. His skin also cannot be diseased due to his highly accelerated skin replacement.

He is now depowered after M-Day.

Alternate Versions

Earth-295
In this alternate reality known as the Age of Apocalypse, Blob was kept in Beast's Breeding Pens, where he was a guinea pig for McCoy's experiments. In searching for a reason for a pointless mutation, as the Beast put it, the Blob broke free of his restraints and attacked his captor. Lucky for the Beast, Havok, one of the Elite Mutant Force, showed up and blasted the Blob. This was not enough, though, as Dukes continued to charge. Finally, Cyclops stepped in and unleashed an optic blast into the Blob, killing him.

He is later seen alive and mind-controlled by Mr. Sinister and part of his own version of the Sinister Six. Quicksilver tried to punch him several times, but he didn't even moved by his punches. It wasn't until Rogue punched him with enough power to make him fall down. After their defeat, Blob was released from his mind-control by Psylocke.

Blob has the same mutant powers as in the regular Marvel 616 universe, but was later modified by Dark Beast so that he was able to project his gravitational field outward. With this powers, he was able to sweep the entire X-Men off their feet.

Earth 1610
Blob has similar powers and is often seen eating and surfing the internet. He was playing a joke on Beast, pretending to be a girl named Naomi on the internet. Through his rouse he managed to inadvertently get Beast to tell him that Magneto did not die as everyone thought and that Xavier simply wiped his mind and tricked everyone into thinking Magneto dead. Blob and the rest of the Brotherhood ambushed Beast on a supposed date with Naomi.

Earth-85163
In the House of M universe, Blob is a member of the Marauders, the Genoshan Black Ops team and also the NYPD strike force, the Brotherhood (this universe's version of the Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants)

Earth-2149
In the Marvel Zombiverse, Blob is one of few remaining mutants to be not infected by the zombie plague. He is seen alongside Toad and Pyro being chased down by other zombie super-beings. He is next seen as a zombie with the zombie version of the Freedom Force.
