Origin

The man called Blade was born in a Soho Brothel, in Great Britain. Blade himself has revealed that the exact date of his birth was October 24, 1929 - also known as Black Thursday; as it was the day the stock market crash began. Blade said he is 72 years old but his vampire powers make him look much younger. Blade's mother, Tara Brooks; a prostitute at Madame Vanity’s Brothel, experienced severe labor complications, and a doctor was summoned. The name of the "doctor" was Deacon Frost, in reality a bloodthirsty vampire. Frost feasted on Blade's mother during Blade's birth, killing her, and accidentally passing along certain enzymes in his own blood to the infant.

This resulted in Blade's superhuman abilities, such as immunity to being turned, ability to "smell" supernatural creatures, and greatly prolonged lifespan.

This also caused Blade's sensitivity to bright light. Frost was driven off by Blade's mother’s coworkers before he could kill the infant as well. They raised him until he was nine years old. Though he lacked superhuman physical prowess, he trained himself to become an Olympic-level athlete and formidable hand-to-hand combatant. Most notably, he became an expert with edged weapons and especially knives and daggers. Walking home from school, Blade saw an old man being attacked by three bandits. Blade fought off the hoodlums, who turned out to be vampires, and rescued the old man. He learned that the old man was Jamal Afari, a jazz trumpeter and vampire hunter. Afari moved into Madame Vanity's brothel and trained the young Blade in both music and combat. Blade was soon able to defeat many of the weak, younger vampires that he and Afari found in abundance. However, Blade's victories made him cocky.

He soon joined a street gang, the Bloodshadows, which was headed by a much older and more powerful vampire than any Blade had met before: Lamia. Blade barely defeated Lamia, and, in doing so, lost his girlfriend Glory, a loss which caused him not only to accept his destiny as an enemy of the undead but also to swear to it forever. Afari himself later fell prey to the attack of the vampire Dracula, the first occurrence in an ongoing battle between him and Blade. Blade slew the vampire Afari and followed Dracula back to Europe.

Blade tracked Dracula throughout Europe and Asia Minor, then on into the far east, staking him many times, but never completely destroying him. In China, Blade joined Ogun Strong's vampire hunters which included Azu, Orji and Musenda. Together, they staked Dracula again.

Once more, Dracula survived, and taught Blade an object lesson by killing all of his new-found friends except Musenda (who eventually retired from vampire hunting). However, Orji created a lasting impression on Blade with his use of wooden daggers as a means to combat vampires. Sometime after Orji's death, Blade mastered the use of daggers and adopted the use of wooden daggers as his preferred method of combating vampires. Consumed by grief, Blade resumed his quest alone. It was decades before he again allowed himself to endanger another human.

When hunting down Dracula in Paris, Blade met up with a group of vampire hunters, being led by Quincy Harker. They have align with each other on various occasion, but Blade does officially join the team. After tracking down Dracula in London, he fought him, Morbius, and his minions. Back in America, Blade once again find himself joining Harker's team but with another ally, Dracula. Here they fight a more powerful villain, Doctor Sun. After the battle, Dracula fled, with Blade hot on his tracks. He then encountered Hannibal King, a private investigator who was turned into a vampire by Deacon Frost. They first team-up to defeat a Blade doppelganger, but when the doppelganger absorbed the real Blade, Hannibal called for Hellstorm, to exorcise Blade out of the fake one. Eventually Blade and Hannibal killed Deacon.

Blade, Hannibal and Doctor Strange formed the Borderline Investigations Inc. an investigative agency that battle supernatural beings, they battle Dracula and the Darkholders. But they briefly disbanded when King left and Blade was put in a mental hospital after a fight with a resurrected Dracula. Doctor Strange them reassembled the Borderline Investigations Inc and renamed it the Nightstalkers. When the demon Lilith hired them to kill Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch) and Johnny Blaze. Then they all team up to defeat Lilith and Lilin. They also fought Hydra.

Blade once again find himself fighting a resurrected Deacon Frost and Dracula, but with the help of Hannibal King, Frost was killed yet again. he also defeated Morbius, who was being controlled by another vampire. After that he followed him to New York where Blade team-up with Spider-Man. When Morbius bit Blade, his vampire anatomy reacted to Morbius natural vampirism, that it granted him all the strengths of a vampire and eliminated his sensitivity to sunlight, which gave him the title, "Daywalker" by his enemies. Blade also had a run-in with SHIELD, who were retrieving his blood to create vampire operative. With the help of other vampire hunters, they were able to stop them. He then joined with other vampire hunters all over the world to prevent Dracula from becoming a god. Blade was recently offered a formula that is said to rid him of his vampirism, in exchange for going on a time-traveling mission to defeat Doctor Doom. But after the mission, he gave the formula to his friend, Hannibal King.

In the event of the Civil War, Blade registered himself and became an operative of SHIELD. He took advantage of this by giving himself a "gun hand", to replace his other hand, which he had to bit off his hand to escape from his father.

Powers and Abilities

Blade has shown many times that he is somewhat immune from the bite of a vampire, This is due to his healing ability obtained from the mutated vampirism. However their has been temporary cases showing his vampire instincts takeover and are enhanced due to Blade already being in a weakend state (usually from an intense battle and blood loss), But Blade now seems to embrace what he has become, but he still fears giving into his thirst.

He has an enhanced healing factor which is similar to Wolverine, but unlike Wolverine his vampire anatomy attacks any alien substances (chemicals/viruses) in his body and eliminates any chance of him being rendered helpless or maimed from the inside.

Blade has the very rare ability to smell and sense supernatural creatures (which vampires don’t seem to posses.) This has helped him many times to identify a demon even if they have possessed the body of a human being (this is noticeable when a demon possessed a man dressed as Santa Clause, Blade sensed the demonic essence coming from him.) He can enter the spiritual realm due to being a demon and he posses the ability to hypnotize humans in a similar fashion of normal vampires, including Dracula.

Blade also has a greatly prolonged lifespan which indicates that Blade may possess immortality. This is obviously due to his accelerated healing ability and has saved his life many times in the movies. The formula Blade uses to suppress his supernatural thirst also slows down his healing rate, but it is evident that Blade still has this healing ability to a very high degree.

Blade can withstand the Ultra Violet rays of sunlight to an extent, But this most defiantly doesn’t make him immune. Human eyes are very shy towards the harmful rays of the sun, but his eyes have severe sensitivity to bright lights of any sort (which is why he uses his protective sunglasses.) However he can see in the dark as clearly as day, which also helps him identify the glyphs on buildings and identifying vampire safe houses and blood banks. His smell, sight and hearing is also heightened to super human capacity, which makes his tracking abilities surpass even the best hunters in the marvel universe.

Blade is stronger than most vampires which is seen in all three movies and most of the comics. He has superhuman agility and stamina. He can jump from a building to building or jump from a roof top to the ground with little damage or fatigue, unlike vampires who would most likely die or at least be paralyzed from a fall so high. He can also move and run much faster than most vampires and this has been greatly seen in the comics.

Blade has mastered all weapons and all martial arts. He cant be captured on film or be seen in a mirror.

Blade has the ability to cause a vampirism in whoever he chooses and due to something in his saliva, the person (referring to people as hosts from now on) becomes paralyzed as soon as the saliva makes contact with the blood stream (immobilizing the host from moving.) But even though they are paralyzed it is obvious the hosts he feeds on feel great pain and discomfort. It has been noted that Blade is allergic to cows blood, but if he is allergic to all animal blood (it has not been stated.)

Blade's reflexes and senses are so refined that he re-acts before his brain can actually analyze a situation. This characteristic is found in humans, but is selectively seen in rigorously trained martial artists (this indicates that Blade has at least 25 to 50 years of martial arts training history.

Blade has shown that he has vast knowledge and an understanding of the bigger picture of the supernatural realm and he seems to understand that he plays a bigger part in the world than he first anticipated. Blade also knows that the world is full of unimaginable horrors and he feels that his abilities make him the key to save humanity.

This justifies that Blade no longer thinks of himself just a vampire slayer, but a demonic reaper and he will do (kill) and happily terrorize anything necessary to protect what he believes in. This has also given Blade the negative reputation of going to extreme lengths and killing as many familiars as possible to get to just one vampire, Blade also kills familiars with the full vengeance and extent of his sword as he would a vampire, because he knows they want to be like vampires and they aid vampires in their demonic and satanic acts. He doesn’t show much remorse for people who give in to the viscous acts or bullying of vampires. He has expressed that he would rather let them die that help a coward.

(A disturbing characteristic is that Blade seems to enjoy the pain and suffering of even an infant vampire.)

All these abilities have been called upon at least ones In his past and they have given Blade the strength to fight such demons as the original vampire Dracula and many other powerful demons, showing he himself is a very powerful warrior and hunter.
