Good Bye BlackHawks....For Now (I hope)

Synopsis: Mother Brain returns for round two.

In the finale, The BlackHawks take on Mother Brain once again. Well, that's not entirely true. The focus is more on Kuniochi with the other members playing a supporting role. Still, Mike Costa still incorporates some characteristics for the other characters. One element I looked closely at in this issue was the monologues. At first, I thought it was Mother Brain, but it's someone who makes a surprise appearance considering to what happened in the previous issue. In theory, it makes sense, but because this is the final issue, the idea is not really explored much.

And really, when it comes down to this issue, the problem is the pacing. Almost everything about this issue feels rushed. The artwork doesn't help much either. Don't get me wrong, I love what the art team did in this issue. Cafu is a great artist. I like the events taking place in real time and Kuniochi's battle with Mother Brain in her head. I also liked how the art team distinguish between the real world and inside Kuniochi's mind, but at the same time, it's a bit distracting. I wasn't feeling the glossy skin tones in half of the book. Overall, when it comes down to it, I just wanted to see consistent imagery to Costa's storytelling.

    Overall:

I don't know how the other cancelled 52 books fair with their ending (other than Static Shock and Mister Terrific), but I thought BlackHawks had a decent ending. I'm hoping to see the BlackHawks return in some kind of form later on.

THE GOOD: I really like that art in some of these pages. I think that it gives it a cool tone. I also really like some of the scenery designs in this book as well. When you look in the background you always see some really cool design work and it makes the book really cool. Mike Costa ends the series with a bang that I think was well done. I really like the action in this issue and the threat in this issue and I think it did a good job as showing readers what the series was suppose to be about. ...
