When Media Goes Wrong...
Synopsis: The media picks up on the BlackHawks, and a new threat emerges.
Remind me why this series is being cancelled? Never mind. After the previous story arc, Mike Costa focuses on a couple of topics that felt overlooked due to everything else going on: the media, and why The BlackHawks exist. To be honest, I did question why the BlackHawks exist when there are the Justice League, Justice League International, and well, Superman, but it makes sense. BlackHawks are considered to be a black ops team that take on threats that would seem questionable. Besides, after reading five issues of this series, I don't think this group does this for attention.
Besides the story, what makes a group like BlackHawks work are the characters. Every character has their own distinctive personality that works and makes them different from reading a different superhero (or anti villain) group. Each character grows even the littlest. Take Irish and Attila. They both have a story that gets me to like them.
I love Cafu's artwork with this series. This series had artists come and go (which none were really bad) Cafu's penciling and layouts are perfect for this series. The action is highly entertaining, and each character looks different. Add the coloring by Guy Major, and the artwork is enhanced even further.
Overall:
It really is a shame that this series is cancelled. This series is one of those guilty pleasure series that feels different for the other series I'm currently reading.
