Some of these characters I've known for sometime as characters that died years ago. One of these characters I've never even heard of. Is this just a cheap stunt, or do they serve a purpose in the upcoming Brightest Day event? I'd like to believe that each one has a reason for coming back. With a few of these characters, it just seemed like they died and came back in the mini-series just for the heck of it. At the same time, did anyone really think that as all these DC characters are dying, they wouldn't come back to life by the end? I believed we'd see the vast majority return to life.
However, as much as I want to think their deaths were just filler in the book, I really do think each one in this picture will serve a greater purpose, but then the question is, who's the enemy? Are the characters that came back to life the enemy? Are members of the corps the enemy? How do all these puzzle pieces fit together? It's something we can speculate on now, but it won't be fully answered until Brightest Day finishes up.
The question always pops up, "Is death cheap in comics?" It's not a flat-out "yes" or "no" answer though. Death, at first, may seem like a cheap plot device, but depending on the writer and the story it could be something so much more. Death can unite enemies and divide friendships, sometimes it's shades of gray, and other times we won't know the answer until the story is completed.
How do you feel about the death and return of these characters?
