Black Widow
Character » Black Widow appears in 3719 issues.
A former KGB agent, Natasha Alianovna Romanova, better known as Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow, was trained by the top-secret Soviet brainwashing and training program, the Red Room, to become the ultimate "Super-Spy". She defected from the Soviet Union to the US to join S.H.I.E.L.D. Subsequently, Black Widow proceeded to become a member of the Avengers and has been on the team on numerous occasions. She's a woman with an enigmatic past which very few are acquainted with.
Now It Looks Like Scarlett Johannson Is Black Widow
What makes things interesting is it's reported that Scarlett did screen test for the role but didn't get it. Yet now it looks like she might have it. Supposedly she didn't get the best deal out of this and will be tied to any future movies calling for the Black Widow, including The Avengers. If she has a good enough agent, I'm sure things can be worked out for her.
Back in February when Scarlett was first mentioned, it seemed some didn't feel she was their first choice. Maybe she wasn't Jon Favreau's first choice either but I think we have to have some faith in whoever made this decision. The first Iron Man movie was good. I would think they'd want to continue to live up to that standard.
I did also recently read that Scarlett had dyed her hair red, feeling that being a "blonde bombshell" wasn't suitable for her now that she's married. She said she was bored one day at her hairdressers and decided to change it. Maybe this is the real reason she changed it...
Hmm lets hope they stick with the background and make her Russian instead of in the Incredible Hulk where Blonski didn't get a vocal coach and they just didn't have be Russian.
"G-Man said:I appreciate her looks but I also think she's an intelligent person (from interviews and such I've seen) and she can act. I wouldn't want some good looking chick that couldn't act in this movie. It'll be interesting to see her in a role like this. I think she can do it."I think she can do it. I officially give her my support.Alright then are u looking into her eyes or....

Black Widow material, IDK, that role really requires someone slightly more mature in age and appearance and personality. Not saying Scarlett isn't a bad choice, but it is very possible she could pull it off; I am hoping for the best. She'd look GREAT in black leather, so I guess we shouldn't gripe (at least the guys won't).
Ironic, her husband has now been in 2 comic book related movies I know of (Blade 3 & Wolverine: Origins) and now this will mark Scarlett's 3rd. First in Ghost World, then The Spirit and now Iron Man 2. With the possibility for more, naturally. It's interesting news.
Just as long as she doesn't make the Russian accent too hammy. This is Black Widow, not Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle.
As far as her looks and acting talent go, I have complete confidence in her. She has strong natural chops and is smoking hot. Give her the red hair and she should fit the bill nicely. As for being badass...

Hope she has a good Russian accent.

Man, this news makes me really sad. Black Widow is one of my favorite female heroes. Scarlet is one of my less favorite actress.
Gotta love the guys that care more about the fact she is good looking, than wether she can pull of the role! lol
".Mistress Redhead. said:True, good point.."Gotta love the guys that care more about the fact she is good looking, than wether she can pull of the role! lol"To be fair, a lot of guys probably don't care much about Black Widow in comics either."
sad but true.
Black Widow is awesome in the comics. Yeah, Scarlett is hot, but she's also a fine actress. I think she can do the character justice, with is more than I can say for any other portrayal of Widow I've seen. In Ultimate Alliance she was just some uber-Russian chick, not a real personality, and that's the way she gets played up all too often. Her nationality should be a minor part of what she is, not her defining characteristic. That's a trap Scarlett will have to avoid with the role. I think the best Black Widow writing has been in the pages of Daredevil; Scarlett should look to the Smith and Bendis interpretations of the character as an inspiration.
"In Ultimate Alliance she was just some uber-Russian chick, not a real personality, and that's the way she gets played up all too often."She was Nick Fury's second... She had her own sub-plot in the game. Other than being a playable character, I'm not sure what more you could really ask of a video game portrayal of her.
The fact that someone of Scarlet's caliber would even consider doing this..makes me happy.Even if she's horrible. It's not like Black Widow is an A-Lister or anything.
"umm am I the only one that doesn't think she is that hot?Well I think she is in the 80 - 85 percent range... She aint Ugly... but she is no Dime Piece either
"
"Alexander Anderson said:Fair enough I guess. Most of the characterizations in Ultimate Alliance were garbage, to be honest."In Ultimate Alliance she was just some uber-Russian chick, not a real personality, and that's the way she gets played up all too often."She was Nick Fury's second... "Yeah, they certainly didn't go out of their way to get great voice actors either."When I heard Doom's voice..I turned the game off.
"It bothered me, but I couldn't turn the game off. I loved Legends 1, 2, and M:UA."It's seems although Legends is the older of the two games..people liked it more than Ultimate Alliance.
She doesn't have to do any accent! Why is it so obvious that people that English is not there first language should have accents? If she is playing super assassin that was super trained, I think she should speak flawless English, no accent at all. When I see actors trying to imitate Russian accent it hurts my brain. No more!
BTW, read one post below my comment that Rourke will be Rasputin in this film

"Every American actor that play Russian character, you want examples? How about Vigo and Vincent in Eastern Promises. Sean Connery in Hunt for Red October, I need to remember more, but believe me, there's more.Connery is Scottish and Vincent Cassell is French..not American.
