Jon Valor possessed no super powers or extraordinary abilities. However, he was a superb swordsman, superior athlete and an accomplished sailor.

In the latter half of the 16th century, political forces threw much of Europe into war. As someone who hungered after justice, British nobleman Jon Valor assembled a crew of loyal fighters and set sail under a buccaneer flag. He donned a colourful costume and called himself the Black Pirate.

When the wars were over, Valor found himself captured by the Spaniards and threatened with execution. In return for sparing his life, Valor agreed to fight under the Spanish flag, so long as the Spaniards pursued justice and fairness.

Valor married a Spanish girl and thy had a son named Justin. When things eventually became untenable in Spain, the family fled to England, where Valor continued to fight injustice as the Black Pirate.

When Justin Valor grew up, he began to fight alongside his father until the day he was seemingly killed in battle. A heartbroken Jon Valor gave up being the Black Pirate - seemingly for good. Five years later, England's King Charles called upon the Black Pirate to stop a mysterious group who were raiding British vessels. It eventually turned out that it was Justin Valor (now a puritan) who was leading this group in order to fund their journey to America.

Father and son reunited and Jon Valor watched his son Justin set sail for America and a new life, then Valor himself returned to England and lived out the rest of his days in peace.

 Starman and the Port O'Souls
