Black Panther
Character » Black Panther appears in 3342 issues.
T'Challa is the Black Panther, king of Wakanda, one of the most technologically advanced nations on Earth. He is among the top intellects and martial artists of the world, a veteran Avenger, and a member of the Illuminati. Using his powers and abilities, he has pledged his fortune, powers, and life to the service of all mankind.
So.. The American Panther?
Marvel Comics has sent CBR News the following teaser image offering an exclusive look at what is presumably the Black Panther's next identity: American Panther. The publisher would disclose no information regarding the character or image other than to say "Fear Itself" will have a "huge impact" on "Black Panther: The Man Without Fear." Currently written by David Liss, the series is illustrated by Francesco Frankavilla, who also drew the American Panther character study.
Didn't Cap pretend to be Black Panther in the Ultimate verse so T'Challa could get out from under Fury's thumb? I know its a stretch to say Cap is going to be vigilanting (don't you love made up words) but perhaps this isn't even THE Black Panther?
It may not be THE Black Panther (which is why I didn't put it in the BP forum), but I don't think it's Steve in that suit... What about Bucky? They never said what he's gonna be doing during this event
Anyone know much about Mystery Men teasers? When i saw this I sort of actually thought it might deal with that. Oh wait thats right, that is set in the past lol, any hoo. Eh, I like the design, and the name reminds me of a 90's kickboxing movie. Feels a bit gimmicky for me.

" L-O-L! what's is going on with this? is every Marvel character going commando(i.e. venom)? "
lol, until I read what your Venom example... I thought you were implying something totally...
Well before Iron Patriot and American Panther, there was Captain Punisher and that lasted a good 2 issues..." What is Marvel trying to do, create another amalgamated character by combining him with Captain America? I didn't like the idea of the Iron Patriot and I'm not too keen on this "American Panther" concept either. "
Hopefully this won't last as long...
For some reason I think its Jack Flag
" ...and the name reminds me of a 90's kickboxing movie.Wasn't Van Damm in that movie? Maybe its him.
O_o
Did anyone else think "Captain America Inc." when they first saw this or was it just me? I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, but if you know Marvel and DC, they do bounce the same ideas off of Cap and Batman a lot nowadays, with BOTH dying only for them to BOTH be actually trapped in time, and now BOTH of them are back and well Bruce has already gone back to being Bat's, Steve is going to be back under the mask in July (unfortunately.... -__-) and now we're seeing Black Panther in a Cap style suit and since we're not sure what's going to happen to Bucky as of yet, is Steve going to try and make more Captain America's? O_O
Maybe his fear is forgetting all about it Wakandan heritage and just adopting the principles of the US. Or that Wakanda is neo-colonised by the US and they all do whatever Uncle Sam says, including any post-humans being drafted into serving American interests?
Half way though the match he starts howling like a banshee... then the music...
Now, that's what I fear!! I want T'Challa to go back to Wakanda, bring back the vibranium, and become king again." I hopes that's Patriot. The Black Panthers were an American group.I'll be pissed if that's T'Challa though.

I hope its not Elijah. I can't see him putting down the shield and putting aside his grandfather's legacy just wear an outfit that would be in the next Mortal Kombat DLC in fact look at this picture makes me want to play Mortal Kombat right now using Sektor or better yet an outfit that looks like he should be riding on a excitbike and hitting ramps to fly over buildings.
Like you, I will also be pissed if T'Challa stoop to this all time low.

Why does Marvel hate the Black Panther? The destroy everything that was awesome about him, make him job to Doom, make him slum in Hells Kitchen, ignore any story telling potent him and Storm have, and they dont have him doing anything important! WTF?
Now hes going to be apart of the Cap Corps? Sigh
The suit would look all right if it weren't for the pointy ears, white eyes, color scheme and the armor. He needs a monocle and a cane.
I think the suit is meant to look wrong. I think (I hope) that it's supposed to not be appealing to the eye, it may even be meant to be offensive. Hopefully they rectify this. I mean they are doing such a messed up job on Panther, I wish they would let me write it.
Normally I'd roll my eyes and write this off due to how stupid this seems, but I did that with Liss/Francavilla's Man Without Fear and was dead wrong. LOVE THAT TITLE!!! If this is the case I'll check it out and give it a chance.
Indeed, folk, indeed. lol
As far as Man Without Fear goes, by all accounts I should hate it, and by all accounts this story should suck. However, I must say that David Liss/Francesco Francavilla have crafted a GREAT SERIES. The things I would complain about in the title all make sense now in retrospect now that I've read the latest issue. I would Rather T'challa be in Wakanda than hell's kitchen but sometimes's change is good. I'm certain this living situation wont' be permanent, so I'm not sweating it, just going to enjoy the ride, bro. As far as he and Storm goes, not really a fan of that wedding it rings of "He's African, she's African..why not?! This is a great idea!". It's just like when people want to see Supes wifin' up Wondy. Huddlin's run was a miss for me, I enjoyed some of it, but overall gotta say I'm not a fan (though I love the animated series that sprang from it, a shame BET didn't pick it up). Because of that marriage, Storm, one of Marvel's strongest female leads was reduced to a damsel in distress during Doom War. Now she's generally of little to no import to the Marvel U, even in the X-Titles (but all of that I can't blame on the marriage). I wouldn't mind the Marriage if it was delved into more and better displayed in the comics, I mean even if it's just in Shuri's title. Show Storm really being the Queen and guiding her people aside Shuri during the rebuilding process. Sooner than Later I'd like to see T'Challa return to his people, his power, and his throne. And I'd like to see the effects his actions had on his family and his nation.
Yeah, I mean Storm could be the Xavier in Wakanda as I'm sure there are mutants there as well. Their marriage and Wakanda should be further fleshed out. T'Challa should have KILLED Doom at the end of DoomWar. T'Challa and Sorm's marriage and Wakanda should be further fleshed out. More issues and stories focusing on that, please.
" Yeah, I mean Storm could be the Xavier in Wakanda as I'm sure there are mutants there as well. Their marriage and Wahanda should be further fleshed out. T'Challa should have KILLED Doom at the end of DoomWar. "Marvel isn't going to let T'Challa kill one of their greatest villains.
I saw they should. It would be more significant than oh, say, that whole fiasco with "killing" the Human Torch. I wonder how T'Challa feels toward Reed Richards for allowing Doom to join the FF.
One more thing: It's funny to know that on Marvel's website, because of American Panther, Black Panther FINALLY has a separate thread all to himself. Wow, it took all that. Or should say, it took that!?!?
Look, Marvel, it's simple: There are OBVIOUS things in Black Panther's story that should be fleshed out that you seem to ignore it in a desperate mad dash to make Panther more 'relevant'.
1). Flesh out the marriage between T'Challa and Storm. Deadpool and his inner monologues/personalities have a better fully realized relationship.
2).Wakanda. Why don't you for a couple of issues give us a better idea of what Wakanda is like to live in. It's citizens, it's problems. Is there no crime? Are there any mutants for Storm to teach/lead? How big is it geographically? Different factions of its military and government? How are their weapons made? Population size? Are there different cities/tribes within this nation? How are they ran? How has Wakanda fared since losing all of it's vibrianium. If Captain America still has his shield, is it safe to assume that not all of the vibrianium is gone...which brings me to my next topic...
3). Where did the worlds vibranium really come from? SPACE TRIP!!!! It came from space, but was it on purpose. Was it like how out moon was formed, by sheer accident, or, was there something...alien??? Have you guys ever seen that movie 'Mission To Mars'? In the story they basically found out that all life on Earth was started by life on Mars. That could be the inspiration for a story on maybe not just getting the vibrianium back, but where it came from. Who is to say, I mean how far back in the history of Wakanda does the precious metal go-the beginning of time?
- There is a tribe of Africans- the Dogon, who believe that all life on Earth started from life from outer space. There are conspiracy theorists that are "Convinced of evidence that the Egyptian, Sumerian, and Dogon civilizations were founded by aliens from the Sirius star system who are now ready to return. ..." and all that other 2012 nonsense. I think there is a great story in there for Black Panther. If only we had a writer who wasn't trying to gives us that old "T'Challa has to prove himself-to himself...again" and wanted to give us something new...
i agree with Osiris1428 statement about black panther. unfornatunely in comicbooks black characters are less developed then most characters.
" i agree with Osiris1428 statement about black panther. Unfortunately in comicbooks black characters are less developed then most characters. "I guess because it's scary. You don't want to alienate anyone, and wind up finding things wrong in society you keep thinking was long done and over with. Look at the reaction to Hiemdal being played by Idris Elba. Who knew it would be that big of a deal?
" @Osiris1428: I have a better question, why has'nt Marvel hired this guy? "What guy, who me? Lol. I wish. I would love to. I need to work on my art work more, and then, maybe I'll take it to a comic con and see what happens. But who did you mean?
" One more thing: It's funny to know that on Marvel's website, because of American Panther, Black Panther FINALLY has a separate thread all to himself. Wow, it took all that. Or should say, it took that!?!?Preach, my naga!!! Plays On & On by Erykah badu. These are ALL things I'd like to see tackled when T'challa leaves Hells Kitchen. I think many writers (especially white one's) just don't know how to handle writing a predominantly black cast, especially an African one. There are exceptions like Dysart's excellent work on Unknown Soldier, but these works are few and far in between. I think the idea of the worlds most advanced nation being located in the continent that most people associate with 1. Slavery 2. Famine 3. Poverty 4. Disease 5. Civil War/Genocide 6. is difficult for a writer/readers to accept if you get me. So naturally the writer tends to start a series in Wakanda with some nice scenery shots, but inevitably moves things to NY or throws T'challa around other heroes asap. I'd like to see Panther/Wakanda portrayed by a writer and artist who've spent some time in Africa, and understands it's history and current political climate. One of the things that helped Dysart write such a vivid and authentically African tale was spending time in Uganda and the surrounding nations. He internalized the place he was writing until it's people, it's sounds, it's sites, it's smells naturally flowed forth from him. I believe somebody with a base level understanding could come up with some truly amazing stories. All those unpleasant things most people associate with would make great problems for T'challa and his people to tackle. Imagine an arc focused around Wakanda breaking it's isolationists stance and stepping into the Uganda Genocide, or T'challa using his intellect (he's one of the 8 smartest men on earth dammit!!!) to tackle the issues of famine, poverty, disease? If Reed can try to solve everything why not T'Challa. I'd like to see a portrayal of Africa in the mainstream of this medium that wasn't a generic jungle/shanty town/plain/bush. Let's see Wakanda from all angles, let's see the fusion of the ancient and the bleeding edge. I think that The Panther Motion comic's portrayal of Wakanda's an excellent place to start for any writer trying write Panther.
