Black Manta is the archenemy of Aquaman
He appears in Superfriends and Justice League Unlimited.
A professional criminal all his adult life, Black Manta has spent years plundering the ocean floor of its valuable contents. During this time he has assembled a number of henchmen and also has developed some bioengineered mutants he calls Manta men.
Little is known of the man beneath the Manta costume, save that he is Black. "Not that racism is my motive" Manta once said, "but since blacks have been surpressed so long on the surface, they may as well fight for supremacy beneath."
Black Manta has attempted to establish his own kingdom under the waves on a number of occasions, but each time he has been foiled by Aquaman. In one of their conflicts, Black Manta was directly responsible for the death of Aquaman's son, Arthur Curry Jr,thus becoming the sea king's greatest foe. Aquaman later pursued Black Manta and in a fit rage almost killed him but decided to let him live.Later on,during the Underworld Unleashed story line Black Manta sold his soul to the demon Neron and bacame a real manta creature.During the Infinite Crisis story line,Black Manta and other members of the Secret Society attacked Atlantis but were stopped by Aquaman.
