There had been drought and the hills had been over-grazed by sheep and cattle... they were barren now and the famished wolves raced after Black Fury's band of mustangs! Black Fury kicked and slashed at them and kept them off while the thundering herd rocketed across the razor-back ridge... down a slope... and into a quiet, green valley where no natural enemies lay waiting to prey! There was sweet water and lush, green vegetation! Only Black Fury sensed the silent death dwelling here... in vain, he avaged his gaunted charges to make them leave! They stayed... to die!

Sacrifice Stallion
The warriors were wearing paint... over 1,000 Cheyenne braves were ready for war, to insure victory, they sacrificed to the gods of battle... by sending the finest horse on the plains into the pit of bones according to an ancient rite! The war chief, Hushap, had personally led the hunters on Black Fury's trail... used all his guile, and captured him by using a frightened colt for bait! Now, Hushap fired his rifle in Black Fury's ear! The stallion leaped from the rim out into space taking Amos Fyffe, U.S. Cavalryman, with him!
