Black Bolt

Character » Black Bolt appears in 803 issues.

King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt is blessed and cursed with a power so great as to tear whole planets asunder using only his voice. He must be careful to never utter a sound, for even the slightest whisper will cause untold destruction.

Just how powerful is Black Bolt?

Aside from his sonic scream, I know that Black Bolt can channel particles and electrons via the fork like antenna on his forehead to increase his strength, speed and durability amongst other things. And obviously there's the Master Blow. But what else is Black Bolt capable of? My knowledge on his powers and abilities is sorely lacking and I'd appreciate any info you viners have on Black Bolt's feats.

Black Bolt has taken on the likes of the Hulk, Thor, Namor, Gladiator, Nova, Sphinx, Apocalypse, Thing and most cases have come out on top or at least a good showing. Staring down Sentry in Silent Wars to a stalemate. He has showed the strengh and speed to conter the Superman like powers of Gladiator and the raw power to subdue the Hulk. I do not recall Black Bolt losing to a single opponent one on one, unless being possesed or having to hold back in one way or the other. Karnak has stated that Black Bolt has no weakness through his power. I would say one the worst Black Bolt showings, was in War of Kings or Sue Richard suffocated him when he can survive in outerspace. Bad writting. Yes, Vulcan is one of the most powerful mutants in the MU but he should have never been able to fight Black Bolt in Hand to Hand combat. Poorly written. I would put Black Bolt as one of the most powerful Marvel Metahumans. Top 5 at least if properly written.

  • Superhuman Strength: Black Bolt, like all Inhumans, is superhumanly strong. According to his bio, under normal circumstances, he is able to lift about 1 ton. However, he can augment his physical strength by channeling the necessary particle energy through his body. At his peak, he is able to lift up to 60 tons.
  • Superhuman Speed: Black Bolt can run and move at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete, as he has been able to catch directed miniature missiles even when attacked from below and unaware with ease, move at a speed so great he is invisible to the human eye, move at such a speed he can travel vast distances before a human can finish processing a thought, and has been able to catch and beat Quicksilver with ease. He can augment his speed to unknown level.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Black Bolt's Inhuman musculature generates less fatigue toxins than the musculature of a normal human, even the finest human athlete. At his peak, he can exert himself for several days before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him. He can augment his stamina to unknown as well as his other physical abilities with his powers.
  • Superhuman Durability: Black Bolt's body is incredibly resistant to all forms of physical damage. Black Bolt is resistant to great impact forces, such as falling from a height of several stories that would severely injure or kill a human being unharmed. He has been repeatedly struck by beings with vast superhuman strength such as Hulk, Namor, Gladiator etc. and remained unharmed. Black Bolt is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, such as the cold in space without any discomfort, the heat from re-entry without any discomfort, and even the heat from a Solar Flare powerful enough to significantly damage the planet without any damage at all. Black Bolt can augment his durability to unknown limits.
  • Superhuman Agility: Black Bolt's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. He has shown inhuman and amazing maneuverability and agility in the air, capable enough of combating numerous air crafts, and dodging various projectiles from multiple directions. Black Bolt can augment his agility to unknown levels.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Black Bolt's reflexes are beyond those of the finest human athlete, and he can augment his reflexes to unknown levels.
  • Superhuman Longevity: Like all Inhumans, Black Bolt has a natural lifespan that is at least twice the average lifespan of a human being.

Still, the real Black Bolt wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

@AweSam: It was a version of Hulk that easily stomped thru the X-men, Fantastic 4 and most of the Avengers so I don't think being stomped by this version means he was weak.

He didn't easily stomp through anything, he got his ass kicked the whole way. I didn't say he was weak.

Black Bolt's taken on the Hulk a few times and come out on top in all of them. During World War Hulk the Black Bolt we see is a Skrull imposter and it's revealed the Skrull's themselves have great difficulty in managing to replicate his energy particle harnessing abilities that grant him such a powerful voice. Instead they opt for a replicated and toned down version since Black Bolt rarely uses his sonic scream.

As has been stated above already, Black Bolt if written correctly has always been a complete powerhouse in terms of offensive capability but he doesn't have the same defensive capability as some other heroes which is arguably his second biggest fault or weakness.

What about Hyperion?

@sexy_beast: totally agree with you .. People think Black Bolt just can yell very loud but the fact is he can manipulate energy and matter.. when channeling his powers right he has 100 tons level strength he is telepathic he has been shown to be as fast if not faster then quicksilver.. Growing up I was a Fantastic Four fan and always loved Black Bolt but the writers never seem to use all his strengths at once he is easily up there with Thor and those class of guys in my opinion!
