Back on August 19th, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said that he was in talks with Warner Bros to either play Shazam or Black Adam for an upcoming DC Film. He mentioned that Black Adam was one of his favorite characters, but he seemed to be up for both roles. Johnson announced today, on Twitter, which character he would be playing: Black Adam

Update: According to Variety, The Rock will be starring DC & New Line Cinema's (A subsidiary of Warner Bros.) Shazam film, playing Black Adam. Darren Lemke (Jack The Giant Slayer, Shrek Forever After) will be writing the script. Hiram Garcia (Hercules) is producing.

I pity the Shazam actor who has to bulk up in order to look in the same league as the Rock.

Smart move on his part. He looks the part, plus I think it's a nice change from his usual roles. If he were Shazam, he also wouldn't get as much screen time as that character/actor has to be split a bit with whoever plays Billy Batson. He plays the good guy a little too often, and I think he's well suited for a villain/anti-hero. He's charismatic, and Black Adam has a bit of a following despite being a villain for the most part. He'll definitely be a villain people will want to watch.

hopefully it works out well, I will remain cautiously optimistic about this but he isn't that great of an actor.

I'm thinking John Hamm from "Mad Men". He's certainly got the height and that classic Captain Marvel jawline (not to mention the millions of viewers/fans from his AMC show that could turn around and see this movie)...

I'm going to be honest and I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for saying this:: I can't see him as Black Adam.

He has the look of Black Adam but I don't think he can pull of the acting chops to play someone like Black Adam.

Shouldn't be too hard for him, considering that he's in pretty decent shape at the moment. Still, one round each of P90X and Body Beastand he should be ready to go.

Not enthused about the creative talent on board thus far. Not one bit. (Aside from the Rock playing Adam that is).

Hopefully they get a great director. Fingers are crossed.

The potential is strong in this one. It nice to see the hero play an anit-hero role. Fast and Furious doesn't count sine he was still the hero.
