Rather Interesting Concept
Okay, now maybe I'm just too "sheltered" but I have to say that reading this comic was the first time I ever truly encountered the idea of a vampire crime family, no not a cult of vampires who commit crimes but actual mobster vampires in a world where vampires are citizens and well there may be some better medium that has executed such an idea to an even greater extent I have yet to discover it.
Nonetheless this really was a great issue, not just because of the idea behind it, but because of the characters that make up this crime family, all of them equally deranged, but in different ways and now with the death of their patriarch one of them must take up the family. Will it be the bloodthirsty uncle, the misguided teenage grandson, or his abusive father, the sex-addicted favorite or the runaway priest?
Yes, I only gave the issue four stars, but that's because, apart from the unexpected twist at the end that provides for an awesome cliffhanger, their isn't really any "action" sequences, its just an intro to the family, a good intro nonetheless as it really begins to show us who each of the characters are so we can move past that and get into the actual story.
So, this series is a recommended read if your into vampires, and just other out-of-the-norm concepts or a story where the protagonists are the bad guys, because that's exactly what this is. An entertaining read to say in the least. Not as "serious" as some other Vertigo titles sure, but still some good stuff.
