To me, to some degree or another, this issue seemed a little exploitive. But maybe that's just me.
Birds of Prey
Team » Birds of Prey appears in 437 issues.
The Birds of Prey are a group of female heroes headed by Barbara Gordon. Though the team's roster tends to rotate, the mainstays of the group have been Oracle/Batgirl, Black Canary, and Huntress.
Unscripted Review: Birds of Prey #3
Between the background piano and the echo, it was a bit difficult hearing. Maybe that's just me though....
The beginning was a little weird, but after that everything was good. The art's strong, the story had a twist, and the end had me wanting a lot more.
" To me, to some degree or another, this issue seemed a little exploitive. But maybe that's just me. "I have to completely disagree. I think it was poking fun of exploitation and made Penguin look like a moron because everything that happened was in his mind, in his imagination and outside of reality. What he envisioned would never happen in continuity, and makes him look like a loser. :)
Did they ever get this issue straightened out? It didn't ship this week to my LCS. :-( figures because its my favorite DC book.
Glad to hear it was good. I bought the first two and not this one. I'll have to get it this weekend.
My LCS guy said that diamond comics didn't ship it. I also heard a rumor that some copies accidentally had pages from Batgirl 12 inside. :s
I think it's cool that Ed and Mariah could work on it together... so if nothing else Ed's sister didn't mind inking the scene.
Sweet! Thanks!
" @Babs said:Okay, I don't think it was necessary either, but it was funny and only added to poking fun of the Penguin's character. I'm usually the first to jump up and say something is sexist, but looking at the context of the story and the dialogue, it was comedic. The scenes that took place would never actually happen. Remember, It's Gail Simone, she's the biggest feminist in the industry." @Silver2467 said:I can see Penguin doing something that pathetic, but to me, it just seems like an excuse for fan service. And most "excuses" for fan service are pretty pathetic excuses. Now, I can agree that given Penguin's character, it does make sense, but I'm not completely sure it enhanced my reading experience too much. And that should be the goal. So, does it fit Penguin's character? Yes. Could I see him doing that? Yes. Is it really necessary though? I'm not entirely sure it is. Sexy isn't sexist. Believing in the superiority of a sex(gender) is sexist. Being, graphic, lude, tacky, slutty, tantalizing, flirtatious, etc isn't sexist. You can say it's unwanted (by some wanted by others) against your taste or whatever but it's not sexist. Gender isn't defined by appearance. Objectification is not the same as exploitation either. Look up the words.
How come you guys split up the reviews this week? Is it because you guys were busy with the move to the new place? Or are the reviews going to be solo again?

This was an excellent issue and I really liked the first scene. It gives the Penguin some character.
@Gylan Thomas:
Since we're always rushing around and were short on time (SDCC next week and settling into the new office), we decided to each do two separately at the same time. Looking at the comments here and on Second Coming #2, we might give this a try for a bit with the occasional joint video. Why not mix things up once in a while? We'll still be doing Trading Views together (but not this week, again, ran out of time).
i've been curious about this, i do like some of tha characters on tha team and i luv eds art. i may pick up these first few issues at wizard world chicago comic-con, myabe i can find em cheap lol
what is up with these unscripteds. man im let down.
But the comic was good. Dont really know who those guys at the end were but whatever.
So Babs, when you got to the end and found out you had to wait for what's next, is that when you punched the hole in the wall behind you?
Is it necessary for the outfits to show that much skin, be that tight, or even to be thought of in a perverted way at all? No, but it happens. That being said, I do question why Huntress isn't wearing the full suit she had on for One Year Later and Final Crisis: Revelations. I could understand a viable reason like increased maneuverability in the the uncovered areas, but I am curious as to the change.
" seems like a good book! but get Hawk and Dove out of there "I disagree, not with it being good, i like having Hawk there specifically to balance out the females in the roster.I'm not saying I wouldn't like it if he wasn't there but it seems to be working out having the two of them and Dove being such a calming influence is working out well, although it may just be that Simone is a great writer. In fact my only possible complaint is that Lady Blackhawk doesn't get her share of the lime light but it kind of makes sense when there has to be so much communication between Canary and Oracle.
.
This was one of the things about this book I sort of liked and sort of didn't. For me it was distracting trying to work out the point of it. At first I thought the fan service seemed really out of place in this book then I realised it wasn't fan service for the sake of fan service but for subtly pointing out how weird and perverse fan service is (which i liked). But even so it seemed pointless and distracting." @Silver2467 said:

On the whole though I totally disagree with this review. In my mind it was the worst issue so far. It seemed really nothingy. Nothing new really happened and I didn't feel like the plot had progressed much by the end of the book. Sure there are some events but it felt a little like more of the same as last issue. The art was great and so was the dialog and you are right about Gail "knowing" these characters but the plot seemed lacking to me this issue. So it wasn't bad.... but it really wasn't that good either. I am hoping for big things in the final issue though so I'll continue to pick it up.
Glad to see BC doing her thing well shortly after the breakup with Oliver. But my concerns with these Birds of Prey comics. Is it degrading to the women readers or am I just sensitive? lol.
I still think the White Canary is Shiva.
The comic was late arriving to a lot of retailers, including mine, because apparently there was a printing error, but I think it was well worth the wait. It had me laughing, and angry at the same time. And I can't wait for issue 4.
