Fighting The Good Fight
What was believed to be a simple mission ends up going terribly wrong killing a large number of innocent people in Metropolis. An old enemy from Lady Blackhawk's past resurfaces.
My Thoughts:I was jumping into the middle of this series without having read all the stories prior to this arc. Sean McKeever does a pretty good job for newcomers making it easy to follow and enjoy. I knew the basic knowledge needed such as Black Canary leaving the team a while back and Misfit hanging around. The core members of the current roster include Oracle, Huntress and Lady Blackhawk. They're clearly the three that carry the series as Misfit is just a minor (often annoying) character and Manhunter who makes her sporadic appearances.
The story was pretty entertaining. I felt McKeever was on top of his game hitting on more than one level. It's not all action. He delves deeper into Lady Blackhawk's past and really gets into Oracle's head, or rather Superman does. I certainly enjoyed the appearance from the Man Of Steel who had some harsh words for the Birds. McKeever really grabbed your attention during these parts. He keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I read this entire trade in one sitting. I literally couldn't put the book down. You can't always say that about other comics. There's a lot of twists and turns and an ending that signifies things aren't anywhere near being over.
The artwork of Nicola Scott was superb. A perfect compliment to McKeever's style of writing. The action scenes were choreographed in such an exciting way. It's almost as if you're watching a movie or a television show. The coloring by Hi-Fi Designs was top notch.
I'd recommend checking this out. Whether a new or old fan of Birds Of Prey, this story is easy to jump into and enjoy. It'll have you hooked on the Birds wanting to read more of them.
