What Happened, And Why Did It Take 20 Pages to Confirm a Rumor?
For starters, this cover is a mess. Three different people have an arm around the same spot, so I keep getting mixed up on who's arm is who's.
And why is Ivy on the cover? She's not even in this issue, as one of the assassins won't shut the hell up about.
And honestly, what the hell was with this issue? Last we saw our heroines, they had all gone their separate ways for a bit due to a variety of angers at each other. Plus they had just found out the man they set this elaborate trap for wasn't Choke after all. Suddenly they're being attacked by spy assassins? These guys have some complex teamwork, a few of them with unexplained abilities, and some kind of apparent connection to Black Canary that REALLY makes it feel like we skipped an issue. The whole thing is decent at best, but the lack of any semblance of an explanation, or any connection to the previous still completely unresolved storyline, make this a painful experience. I was barely able to enjoy the usual competent quality in the issue because I spent every second trying to figure out what the hell was going on, how the hell we got here, and what the hell any of it had to do with ANYTHING in this series thus far.
Oh but wait, really this was pretty much just a catalyst for Black Canary revealing that (spoiler not even needed) yes, she did kill her husband. TWENTY. DAMN. PAGES. All just for Black Canary to confirm a rumor from last issue.
In Conclusion: 1/5
Maybe there's more enjoyment that could be had from issue, but I could not have it. I was at the end of my rope as it was with the asshole end of the last issue, and now instead of trying to climb out of that hole, the series decides to jump down the pit and provide it's own flaming-spike-covered-snakes to murder itself.
