Birds of Prey #15
Juan Jose Ryp is filling in for the normally fantastic art and it still manages to look fairly good. There are tons of details in the background and the expressions are very well done. Action also looks very cool and fluid throughout the whole issue. Ryp does an amazing spread and it looks very cool having all the characters together, but also all that details. The story really is sidelined for some action scenes and the result is somewhat satisfying. We get to see all the character work together and then work apart and it's interesting. Seeing Katana tied up and really coming back towards the end was satisfying and really made the character come out a little more in the front of the action. The new character at the end really makes this issue much more satisfying.
THE BAD:
While the art is good, it doesn't come near to the art that we have been getting in this series and that's disappointing because the art has really made the past few issues much more enjoyable. This issue really has very little plot and a very weak ending. The story doesn't feel finished. The biggest problem is that this whole arc has gone down hill from the first issue. There are also mentions towards the end that really make the team feel divided.
THE VERDICT: 3/5 (Okay)
Birds of Prey has been a mixed series in my opinion. We have some really good stories and others that feel only half though up. Duane Swierczynski does a good job at making the characters enjoyable and likable. It will be a shame to see him go but I am hopeful that the new writer will be able to take the team to new heights. If you like Katana and want to know what she might be up to in her new series, this is something that you are going to want. If you want a comic with a lot of brawling females, then this is the best book for you.
