LOL at so many using the pic as their av.

Gary Frank's art is nothing to laugh about.
Character » Billy Batson appears in 2499 issues.
Using the word SHAZAM as his name makes a ton of sense to me! Besides, Monica Rambeau will always be Captain Marvel to me.
Costume looks neat.
Now all that's left to wonder about is the whole kid-in-an-adult-body thing. I think it should be done the way Jeff Smith wrote it in his comic with Billy Batson and Capt. Marvel being separate entities sharing the same body. It was cooler and less pervy that way.

I personally like the name change, let's face it, Dc can claim the change is done for "many reasons" but we all know why it was really done, so people don't associate him with Marvel, and their hero "Captain Mar-vell" I'm tired of doing a google search looking for Billy and having that other guy pop up, that and "Shazam" just sounds cooler than "Captain Marvel" which, is odd since he's not actually a Captain of anything.

Looking forward to see if he'll be differentiated from Supes.
This and I'm digging the new look.

@Billy Batson: I actually don't, unless they do not conform to the rules, and using a Shazam avatar certainly doesn't fall under that category. Nothing else to say.

I'm not convinced yet... -_-
The cowl's not necessary. I mean he's a ten, twelve year old kid in his alter ego. He doesn't need to disguise himself with a hood that could obstruct our vision of him. Nonetheless, the rest of the costume does look cool. I especially like the glowing lightning bolt. I'm a massive fan of Gary Frank's artwork so I hope this will be another great partnership with Johns.
I like the new look and direction. it differentiates the character from being a Superman clone ( and I say that with love). The Hooded cloak definitely adds a air of mysticism, and focussing on his magical roots and connection is a great way to separate him from Supes and any other heavy hitters. Actually they should connect him to WW in some way since he draws power from her gods. @Spiderbat- Yes I'm all in for Battle Tawny!!
Captain Marvel's creepy smile from Kingdom Come can give people nightmares. I love it when people complain that he's not cheesing in cover images. All of a sudden, he's dark & gritty. As for the strength, it's always been magical in nature. Magic isn't about casting spells, there are buffs that heighten abilities like strength, speed and agility.
@Lvenger: But if you think about it.... He's a 10 or 12 year old kid. He would definitely think hoods are cool.
@The Mighty Monarch: Lol you have a point. And reading the NY article, the hood gives a more fantasy appeal to the character which I hope Johns will be able to apply to the back up as well. I am fond of my fantasy stories. But I'm just worried that the hood may obstruct the view of Captain... sorry Shazam's face.
@G-Man : The point about having to say "Shazam!" is not a concern at this point following Freddy Freeman claiming the mantle of Earth's Mightiest Mortal. My understanding is that when Freddy gained his powers he went by the name Shazam because the word was not the sole trigger of the effect but that Freddy needed to will the change to occur. Can't remember if I read that during Cry For Justice or in the Justice Society series but I do remember Jay Garrick being shocked Freddy could say the word without transforming.
So if they have that precedence to go off of then the idea doesn't seem that shocking.
Not really, it's already been established that it's not actually the word that changes him@Adnan said:
@rudorudo: Since he can't say his own name without firing off his powers, I guess he's gotta keep a pack of buisiness cards with him whenever he introduces himself now lol
So true!
Billy is a teenager in the DCnU@Lvenger: But if you think about it.... He's a 10 or 12 year old kid. He would definitely think hoods are cool.
@RedOwl_1:
the ny post quote sounds like it came from the onion , and its bs . they are tired of confusing people with a character named marvel which is also their rival company , so marvel can use its captain marvel , but he is dead. idk about this new look (my only doubt at the new 52 at this point , next to liefeld writing for deathstroke and grifter) captain marvel and anything tied to shazam is really one of my favorite stories from dc i used to read the 1940 stories when i was a kid (it was a collection im not 100) fingers crossed i hope im blown away and not shaking my head in disgust

@zombietag: No, cover story for the back pages of Justice League.
i know im saying he should have his own series
I agree. I believe that don't have too much faith in his sales. So they are putting him in Justice League to get people to notice him. Then I believe he'll get his own series.
