You should read mini-series Shazam!: Monster Society of Evil, it tells the story of Captain Marvel and it probably is the best you'll ever see Captain Marvel in (not that i doubting that Johns or anyone else can make a good CM) but still.

There will never be enough books published by DC to satsify everyone's need to see the characters they like. And a lot of the characters they like can't carry books. Just wait and see what's to come.

Captain Marvel is probably my favorite character and Johns is one of my least favorite writers so I am glad to see him back but... not like this. No problem with Gary Frank. Certainly wouldn't be my first pick but at least he is good at what he does, unlike a certain unnamed current Justice League writer.

In honor of this news I will change my avatar back to the original one I had of Captain Marvel. SHAZAM!

Good news but I think Cap should be on Earth 2, it would have worked if DC hadn't decided to put Superman and Batman lite on Earth 0 with the real Batman and Superman.

Let Johns revamp it the way he did GL in a full issue book and it would be amazing

1. I'm finally glad to see he will be used again someway, and hopefully its Billy Batson.

2. Not the biggest Johns fan, so i'm kinda felling 'meh' at best on that part.

3. Really disappointed its only a backup to JL, really deserves its own title. Not to mention i really can care less about JL in the first place.

Overall as much as a fan as i am of CM, i prob wont be gettin JL just to see him

This is great news, but I'll be even more excited when Black Adam returns to the DCU.

So with this being a second story in the issues and it rebooting him, theres still hope that he could get his own book later on. my one problem is that i would have to buy JL just to read him and that kinda sucks imo, especially for people who might not have been interested in JL, o well at least he will be used somehow now, gotta at least be happy bout that lol

I kind of hope they bring him back with all of the kids having the diff powers like in flashpoint. I found it as nice take on the character.

Its about time but who will he be Billy or Freddy becuz Billy died at the end of Flashpoint and Freddy Lost his powers in Titans 32

Im enjoyed by Gary Frank, but Geoff Johns I think he needs to focus on Aquaman and Green Lantern. but I will definitely check it out.

technically Johns only rebooted Justice League. Aquaman (the only other title that he's working on) is a continuation of Aquaman from brightest day.

In the new 52, you're correct. HOWEVER, keep in mind Geoff was the one who brought both Hal Jordan and Barry Allen back from the dead and he was asked to write Superman: Secret Origin before the DCnU. That's why I'm counting this as, at least, his sixth reboot.

bringing people back from the dead isn't rebooting though.....neither is altering an origin. rebooting is completely erasing something and beginning from scratch.

Semantics. Before Johns, the Green Lantern and Flash titles followed different characters and had different tones. After Johns you have completely new comics that return to you classic characters. To me, that's a reboot rather than following what had been there previously.

I'd be more optimistic if the title wasn't 'The Curse of Shazam'.

I am soo happy to hear this awesome news!! SHAZAM is back and will be written by an amazing writers and drawing by and amazing artist ... this is the best news i've had all month!!

So basically, by reading Justice League I'm forced to pay for this. JL better pick up pdq then.

That sounds interesting. Shame it's as backup stories as opposed to his own title or even featured in a few issues of "DC Presents" but at least he's coming back.

I loved all of the Superman stuff that Johns and Frank did, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Finally, I was wondering when we would finally hear about Billy and his alter ego...what if the New 52 version is like Captain Thunder (Flash Point version) that would be crazy/ridiculous. I can't wait to read this "back up" even though he deserves his own series or at least a mini (within continuity)

To those of you who are saying how you wish he was getting his own book I say just wait a few months. If this backup series is a hit and if some of the New 52 books continue doing poorly in sales, I'm sure they'll gladly cancel something and make room for the power of SHAZAM!!! (sorry I had to say it)

Awesome news, though I kinda wish they'd given him his own proper book rather than a back-up feature...oh well, I'll take anything I can in the meantime.

The title does kinda allude it might follow and keep previously established stories like "Trials of Shazam". Curse? Really? Like Black Adam or Osiris?

I was extremely happy when I heard Baston was joining the NEW 52! As a new reader to comics, Captain Marvel was someone who I was very interested in and wanted more of. All of their previous stuff that i have found has been child's play or older stuff. I'm hoping for a gritty story with him. So i hope this line stays on for awhile, I'm here for the ride!

DC has really put on the big boy shorts as of late and I hope they continue in that direction. Lets see the same classic elements fused with maybe current social issues?

Heard from Newsarama - they might actually just rename the character "Shazam" alltogether to finally put an end to the disputes and confusion with Marvel. I personally thought they should've done it sooner but this is perhaps the best time to address that seeing as they're rebooting a lotta stuff.
