Awesome Toy Picks: KINGDOM COME Shazam!

Posted by G-Man (39600 posts) - - Show Bio

Each week we take a close, hands-on look at cool comic book collectibles. Normally we focus on new items available in stores but every once in a while we like to dip into the 'vault.' This week's pick is from the 2003 line from KINGDOM COME.

I joked about this earlier in the week. This is a collectible from 2003 and I was trying to decide whether or not to open it. Because it's some a cool character and figure, I decided to (and even did a Premium Video for subscribers showing the opening along with some commentary and extra shots).

You can see from the image above that this figure is still in the box and has collected a bit of dust. Looking a little closer, you can see that it's just begging to be taken out of the box.

"Free me!"

It was mainly because it just looks so dang cool. KINGDOM COME was such a great story and the figures in this line were top notch, especially if you consider they're from 2003. I did end up getting just about all the figures in the different waves and they've just been sitting around since.

This figure obviously can't be purchased in regular retail stores but you might find them in comic shops and definitely online. Doing a quick search on ebay turns up a few at reasonable prices, especially when a lot of today's collectible figures are retailing for around twenty bucks.

He may not have a lot of articulation but for a figure like this, you don't really want it. This is something that looks great sitting out on display. When figures have too much articulation, the joints take away from the sculpt and design of the figure. Check out how it looks out of the box.

Let us know what you thought of this selection from the 'vault' and if you'd want to see more out of their packaging. Next week we'll be shifting back towards a more modern selection.

And if you are a subscriber, make sure you check out the video showing the opening along with a video look at the figure.

The BoX!

anyways nice picks G-man...

I dunno. It always bugged me how Alex Ross drew Shazam looking too creepy even when he was free of the mind control. Also the Kingdom Come figures have such limited articulation that it doesn't seem worth the money.

Its almost 2 in the morning here and I've been laughing like an idiot for the last 5 minutes because of that last picture. I can go to sleep knowing the day is now complete!

Also, this is cool but it really can't do much so playing with it would be out of the question but it would be great to put on display.

I always wanted a Captain Marvel figure when I was a child. This would have been nice to own.

That's an okay toy. I wasn't blow away by it and probably won't but it but I still think that it looks coool.

Gosh KC Shazam creeps the hell out of me with that smile of his. Still, nice figure!

I personally don't like that one very much. The face kinda reminds me (in some pictures) of a pig.

Anyway! I really like the idea of showing old collectables from the vault. More please! :D

How does this fig stack up next to the Justice line from 2005? (I think that was the year) I've been dying to get a Black Adam, Captain Marvel and Solomon Grundy from that line for a looooooong time.

Plus the Deadman fig from Kingdom Come is boss as well.

I'd love to get that Captain Marvel some day. I once bought the Magog Kingdom Come toy, but it wouldn't stand up right. Was it just my toy, like a default, or did all of them have a problem standing up right?

This figure is a great representation of Captain Marvel as shown in "Kingdom Come." It looks great and I want one.

I know it's blasphemy, to collectors, to open an action figure but I'm glad you did because I enjoyed seeing it from all the different angles and in the various poses. I agree 100% about the figure not needing more articulation due to the fact that many times a lot of articulation can ruin the aesthetic appeal of the figure.

Also; keep the older figures coming! They're some of the best!

Blasphemy! Luchadeer would defeat any comic-book figure!

#25 Posted by soduh2 (962 posts) - - Show Bio

They called him "Shazam" in 2003?

#26 Posted by andrew2696 (22 posts) - - Show Bio

@soduh2: Didn't people always call him Shazam it just wasn't his official name.

*cough* Captain Marvel!! *cough*

#31 Posted by mikeclark1982 (423 posts) - - Show Bio

@andrew2696: they did, but then there was a huge battle between DC and Marvel over the name, so they just went with Shazam!

Dope G-Man. Always had a soft spot for this line of figures

#33 Posted by supermanfan122508 (31 posts) - - Show Bio

Must find one of these. I love Shazam's suit so much and I wish more people knew who he was.
