Big Bertha is is grossly overweight superheroine mutant weighing in at
approximately 2,000 pounds according to her Marvel Handbook entries, and represents a powerhouse/brick member of the Wisconsin based super team, The Great Lakes Avengers, known especially for SquirrelGirl and now having Gravity added to the line-up. Big Betha is named for a German WW2
weapon, " bertha " being German for for thick or fat literally. She is a very polite, kind person,
and has no self esteem issues related to her weight. She became a little more well known again recently due to guest staring alongside Deadpool, who had a crush on Bertha.
She gets joked about alot. Except heroes the thing, for those that dont know this is what Bertha actually looks like....
Big Bertha is actually the top supermodel out of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Ashley Crawford
( named of course for certain famous supermodels). She has been offered top super modeling jobs in the world, but passed on every one in order to stay with her family in her hometown. She is also a jet pilot.
Bertha's mutant ability is that she can change her strength, mass, and durability by become extremely obese. This is the form most are familiar with. She can switch between forms as well.
So why not stay in her thin supermodel physique then? Even when not in combat Bertha retains her huge form. Well, the way it boils down, is Bertha, is actually that fat person on the inside.Thats who she really is. And why have people like you just for your appearance, which living like that is also very dishonest. No, Bertha chooses to remain in her large form because thats who she is, and shes comfortable letting people see her for that. In fact, then when someone genuinely likes her, she knows they like her for her, as people are more reluctant to be honest with her,something reinforced on Bertha through the experience of being a supermodel.
to me, that, Berthas personality, is a sign of beauty, and resonates though out her person.
there are many "beauty pageant" threads i've noticed, and many to double, singular characters, ect.but given the amount of flack this lovely woman and noble superhero gets, i thought id give some credit where credit is due and stop being so superficial.
