Bred for battle on the hellish world Apokolips, Barda became one of her world's greatest warriors and served as the leader of it's ruler Darkseid's personal guard: the Female Furies. Eventually Barda found love and defected from Apokalips to be with Mister Miracle, her future husband.

Big Barda is so cool, so hot and so bad-ass she deserves some appreciation. 
 
Big Barda is a character created by one of the greatest and most talented and prolific people to ever pick up a pencil; Jack "King" Kirby! 
Kirby based Barda's appearance on that of Playboy model/singer/actress Lainie Kazanand her personality on his wife Roz. 
 
Barda's a New God from Apokalips who became the leader of Darkseid's elite team of warriors/killers; the Female Furies.
She became the wife of Mr. Miracle, the son of Highfather, and a member of the Justice League of America.   
She's a super-strong, super-tough warrior who has proven herself to be on par with Wonder Woman in fighting skill.  
 
She's truly awesome yet so underrated.  She deserves some attention.  Here's some shots of her . . .

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was really quite saddened the other day, i went to her forum to post, but it only had two friggen threads. Then I really wanted to post on one of them, but neither were really any sort of appreciation thread, and then I was going to make one, but man, in my opinion, you should only make one, if you do it like you just did. Pure class man, nice selection of pictures, sketches, figs, and summary of her.  
 
So yea, totally I agree, I wish she were a Marvel character in fact lol

Going back several decades now, probably 40 or 50 years (maybe more), 'Big Bertha' has been a general/generic term for any exceptionally large or heavy woman.  In the late 1960's there was a pop song called "Bertha Butt" somewhat inspired by the name/phrase.  I think the character 'Big Bertha' is derived from this phrase/colloquialism    
 
Though I can't say for sure, it's my opinion, based on Jack Kirby's use of names like 'Scott Free' and the like, that he came up with the name 'Big Barda' as a variation of the commonly used name/phrase Big Bertha.

I've only seen her in the animated JLU show, but from what I've seen she's pretty cool. Mr. Miracle is one of my favorites so I almost have to like her too.

I definitely recgnize the art.  It's John Byrne and it came out in the late '80s or (probably not but maybe) early '90s.   
It happened after Byrne's reboot of Superman in "Man of Steel." Modern Age.

I don't hate Mr. Miracle, but I think having Barda married to him is a waste of time and detrimental to the use of her character.
