Bred for battle on Apokolips, Barda defected from Darkseid's personal guard, the Female Furies, to be with her husband Mister Miracle. Edit
Characteristics
Height: 7' 0"
Weight: 300 lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
Apokolips
Around 250 years ago, on the hellish planet known as Apokolips, Big Breeda gave birth to a daughter named Barda who was taken from her mother at a young age to be trained as a warrior in Darkseid's army. She was raised in Granny Goodness's Home for Orphaned Youth living by Granny's motto, "Die for Darkseid!" Granny Goodness raised Big Barda to become a fierce soldier, destined to lead her renowned elite team, the Female Furies. However, during one of the Furies raids, Barda meets Scott Free, the adopted son of Darkseid. She senses a peace about him and falls in love. So she risks her all to help Himon with his rebel cell and together the two help Scott escape Apokolips.
Mr. Miracle
So Barda eventually turns on Granny Goodness and follows Scott to Earth where he has become the escape artist, Mr. Miracle. His manager, Oberon, being nearly half her size. Scott and Barda are finally wed by Highfather, the birth father of Scott and the ruler of the heavenly New Genesis. For several years, Barda, Scott and Oberon go on tour but they retire from this career becoming superheroes and residing in Bailey, New Hampshire.
Despite their best efforts, having a normal life eludes them again and again. Plagued with disasters they move to New York City to a loft in Greenwich Village. Barda then forms a program in which she trains women to defend themselves and she calls it the New Female Furies. She was captured during this time, along with Superman, by the Apokoliptian New God, Sleez, who planned to force the two to be actors in an adult film but they are rescued by her husband.
Justice League
Barda remains naïve to the customs on Earth but loves the role of the wife and housekeeper. Yet, when duty calls she readily takes up her weapons and prepares for battle. So it is that when Scott joins the Justice League Of America, she aids them in several missions.
While she is training Fire, her Mega-Rod is stolen from her car. So she works with the League to get it back, as in the hands of its wielder the Apokoliptian influence will cause them to be corrupted and kill many who are utterly innocent.
She also leads a team of League members (Martian Manhunter, Gnort and Rocket Red) on a mission to rescue her husband after Manga Khan sells him to Granny Goodness. Manga Khan hires Lobo (paying him with dolphin feed) and orders him to kill the team. Lobo almost succeeds but Barda teleports him to a random location...ten feet behind Guy Gardner's skull, the repercussions of said meeting lasting for years.
She leaves Earth with Scott after their time with the Justice League and reside briefly on New Genesis. But they soon return to Earth and live aboard the Justice League Refuge. At this time Barda leaves Scott because of the fact that she feels he has a lack of consideration for her feelings.
Later Barda joined the JLA without her husband but rather with her "brother-in-law" Orion under the orders of Highfather Takion. They were to be agents representing New Genesis when the Justice League had to battle Mageddon and so they helped mobilize Earth's heroes to do battle. They retired from the Justice League after Mageddon was defeated.
They also helped with other missions such as when Adam Strange enslaved the JLA as a bluff, and they turned the planet into a giant teleportation beam. Barda is later badly wounded in a battle with Queen Bee, a member of the newly formed Injustice League.
Barda and Scott then lived in the suburbs of Conneticut, always willing to help their friends when needed. So it was that Barda helped Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman rescue Supergirl from Darkseid on Apokolips.
Barda's Last Days
She also accepted Oracle's invitation to join the all-female team, Birds Of Prey, as their "heavy-hitter". It was working with them in a battle with the Secret Six that she engaged in combat with another ex-Female Fury, Knockout. Their fight was long and hard-fought but ended in a draw.
Unfortunately, before a rematch can begin she is killed in her kitchen by the mysterious God-Killer, her husband finding her body with her heart ripped out. She has her funeral soon after and Zinda Blake acknowleges her friend's heroism by placing a photo of her alongside that of her deceased former comrades.
Powers
Big Barda has many abilities including superhuman strength and endurance as well as the fact that she is virtually indestructible.
She can project most forms of energy including cosmic energy in the form of destructive blasts. She can phase through solid matter and can see matter and energy at its sub-atomic level allowing her to form energy constructs.
She wields a Mega-Rod, which blasts extremely powerful concussive blasts, and she wears Apokaliptian armor that increases her superhuman strength to even greater levels. She is able to summon Aero-disks, these devices allow her to fly.
She is also able to manipulate space so that she can teleport and she can reshape, transform or animate matter. She is also able to heal other living beings, but cannot resurrect them. She is even able to revitalize organic life on a planetary scale.
