The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971) was a hit television series. The protagonists were the fictional Clampett family.
The Clampetts were originally an impoverished family from the Ozark Mountains area. Several episodes implied that their home state was Missouri. Their family property included a large swampy area. When oil was discovered in said area, they sold the drilling rights to OK Oil Company. Gaining millions in the process, they decided to move to a location more appropriate for their newfound wealth: Beverly Hills.
Much of the humor of the show derived from the culture clash between the unsophisticated, rural family and their upper-class, snobbish neighbors. The main cast included de facto head-of-family Jedediah D. "Jed" Clampett, his shotgun-wielding mother-in-law Daisy Mae "Granny" Moses, his beautiful tomboy daughter Elly May Clampett, his naive, ignorant, and pompous nephew Jethro Bodine, and their efficient secretary Jane Hathaway.
