The Shade (New 52)

German investigator Will von Hammer is being hunted for important information that he needs to tell the Shade. After defeating the Belgian gang Les Diaboliques, the French crime boss Bete-Noire is charged by unknown persons with the task of killing von Hammer before he discloses the information.

Whilst waiting in his hotel room at night, Will von Hammer is ambushed by Bete-Noire and his gang. The Shade then materialises from a shadow portal, starts killing the gangsters and eventually defeating the villain (saving von Hammer's life).

Powers and Abilities

Bete-Noire is shown to have similar powers to that of the Shade, being able to manipulate shadow matter, often with the intention to kill.

Bete-Noire appears to believe that people should be honoured for him to take their lives. He also seems to have a strong hatred for the English (but high anticipation for fighting another fellow "shadow spirit".)
