    One of the Better Before Watchmens 0

    Finally finished reading all the Before Watchmen comics. This one was the quickest out of the volumes, but don't let that be a negative. It may have been a quick read, but it was probably one of the better volumes. Not as good as the Minutemen comics, but pretty damn close. This volume had what the others novels lacked though: the dark, gritty, violent, and uncomfortable side that Alan Moore delivered.The Comedian's part I liked because it used a lot of that alternative history that Watchme...

    I wasn't going to bother with any of the Before Watchmen titles, but a friend lent this to me and it added a nice break from my usual stuff. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. Brian Azzarello has carved out quite a story with Comedian. And I found a new favorite artist in J.G. Jones. His work in these pages is great; his covers, spectacular.     Nothing New, Nothing Important 0

    This was not good. Again we have the ubiquitous "knowing winks" to the "real fans" of Watchmen, with the bloody smiley faces, the Rorschach blots, and on and on - but none of them are clever or meaningful or trenchant. They just irritate and magnify how inferior this tripe is compared to the original. Apparently we are supposed to revel in the violence, gore, grotesque, and obscenity. Watchmen has its share of violence and language (and nudity), but it is not an endless litany of vulgarities and...
