It was definately pretty...
J.H Williams, you are amazing, but even you still have areas to improve on.
Being a virtual stranger to the world of Batman, how would I sum up this collection?
Pretty.
The writing was pleasant, yes, but it wasn't anything incredible, if I may say so. The story itself was interesting in concept but felt kind of jumbled in places and seemed somehow disconnected. The plot twist felt a little like a last-minute addition and therefore didn't impact me as much as it should have.
Oh, but it was really, really pretty. From the artist's style to the colouring all the way to the layout and sense of movement one got from the organization of the panels, it was fantastic.
My only complaint is that the artist apparently decided to make the heroine into something of a stereotype in some of the more striking scenes of the story. I ground my teeth when reading the character concept pages at the back, where Williams explains his decision to give Kate two nautical tattoos (a typical nautical star and a bluebird) by stating that she's 'really into alternative and edgy music', which is apparently reflected in her generic somewhat rockabilly-esque emo-ish style. Yeah, that's edgy.
Most fail-tastic moment? I'll not name names, and keep it brief- one twin says to the other 'you have our father's eyes'. (They're identical twins, they BOTH have their father's eyes).
All in all? 7 out of 10, 3 1/2 out of five.
