    Favorite of the Week

The second week of widespread releases left me hugely conflicted in a good way, because I had to debate endlessly over which of four high quality titles would earn the spot of my favorite of the week. Initially I marked another title with the distinction, but with short reflection I had to reconsider and award that honor to Batwoman, not only one of my favorites of the week but one of the best creations I've seen in a long while.

    Good

In every category I could imagine, I would mark this as a five star title. With an engaging, powerful and compelling lead, Batwoman is both a welcomed fresh face, while serving perfectly in the tradition of heroes past. The story is cram packed with elaborate detail, emotional beats, delivery of character and a natural flow that streamlines the multifaceted content into a hybrid of accessible high literature. The fact that all of this is then supported by some of the finest art quality to hit the printed page marks this as a true artistic creation, the likes of which gives credence to the constant argument on the literary value of comic books. Mystery, romance, drama, humor, this is a work of multiple dynamics, while never struggling for an identity or purpose in the development. The elaboration of Kate's identity mirrors this perfectly as she shifts through the identities of civilian, soldier, mentor and super-hero with flawless ease. Kate is the kind of person I would desperately love to hang out with in life, she absolutely radiates the essence of cool itself. This is a gem of a work, worth treasuring and devouring.

    Bad

Following the previous trend, I really cannot offer a negative mark on the book. I will concur with the analysis of Spanish inaccuracies (mi dios -> dios mio), as this provided an ever so slight distraction (which, when distracting from so otherwise flawless a work, might be considered a negative factor after all). This form of error is not remotely uncommon, however, and as such it was not difficult to make the adjustment. (Also, quite sad the Amy Reeder variant didn't make it into print, oh well.)

    Next Issue

No doubts that this'll be the top of my stack. This issue firmly solidified that as long as there is a Batwoman title, I'll be completely certain to be picking it up. This is even one where I'm specifically requesting the reprint, so that I can keep my sealed copy protected while still being afforded the opportunity to read it through once more.

    Overall

    5 out of 5 Stars!

A phenomenal work of art that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for even a moment.

    Favorite of the Week.

The Story:Someone is abducting children which doesn't go unnoticed by Batwoman who begins to investigate. Batwoman is also still dealing with the loss of her sister, betrayal of her father and the training of her cousin Bette Kane.My Thoughts:I was very disappointed when Greg Rucka left DC knowing he would be absent from this new Batwoman series. His work on Detective Comics that involved Batwoman was nothing short of groundbreaking. At least one half of that team is still on this series. J.H. W...

Blood Really Is Thicker Than Water 0

I will qualify this statement by saying that I haven’t actually read all of DC’s releases so far and I probably won’t either, but Batwoman is, hands-down, the most beautiful book I’ve read this month. We’re talking legit art beautiful. I never heard of J.H. Williams III before, but you can guarantee I’ll remember him from here on out.In the entire book there are only three pages of conventional comic book paneling. Every other page is dynamically done. Nested panels, watery boundaries, action fr...
