Mercenary, formerly of the French Foreign Legion. He is one of the most formidable unarmed combatants in the world. He has mastered numerous martial arts and is perhaps the world's leading master of Savate, the French art of kick boxing. He is an accomplished thief and smuggler.
Coincidentally i saw a program on TV yesterday on Savate. Two US MMA champions went to France and had five days to learn Savate before going up in a real match. They did pretty good, but got their ass kicked in the end.
Savate also known as boxe française, French boxing, French Kickboxing or French Footfighting, is a Frenchmartial art which uses both the hands and feet as weapons and combines elements of western with graceful techniques. Only foot kicks are allowed, unlike some systems, such as and Silat, which allow the use of the knees or shins.Savate is perhaps the only style of kickboxing in which the fighters habitually wear shoes (savate being a French synonym for "old ").
