Typical Teamup
This story begins with Catwoman stealing a briefcase containing files on the Kingpin. Batman tries to stop the drop off but DD intervenes the Batman's attempt to bring them all in and unwillingly alerts Catwoman. The two masked men take down the goons on the roof but Catwoman gets away after flirting with DareDevil. Turns out the goons were working for Scarecrow. Catwoman evades the costumed heroes search and delivers the files to the Scarecrow. The Batman and DareDevil work together here more than their last team-up and with that DD earns Batmans trust and a trip to the Batcave. As the issue progresses it seems that Scarecrow wants the Kingpins job as the new King of New York. At one point Scarecrow hypnotizes Kingpins men in hopes they assassinate Kingpin. Needless to say Kingpin is pissed and wants blood.
My problem with team-ups is that the writer tries not only to be fair to both heroes but the villains too making the story boring. A story like this has amazing potential but not given the right format it might be ruined as the writer tries to get it all in and then tie it all up maybe too quickly. I have to say this book does a better job than the previous matchup between DD and Batman and I think that has a lot to do with the writer and artist. Alan Grant does a nice job with the script and Eduardo Barreto's art is great. I love his use of the slick blacks here. I don't want to give a lot away but it has a great showdown between Batman and the Kingpin. So the story is pretty close to being worthy. The interactions between characters are enjoyable here but remains true to formula and is a bit predictable as these team-ups go. If you like these heroes then it's a no-brainer . Give it a shot. I would still like to see a team up between these two characters where they don't do the typical things that they do in team-ups.
